re: Trains Blocking Roads During the Work Day

As stated earlier.....an urban area with a lot of rail lines should have the occasional underpass near hospitals. An ER should probably not be located where it could easily be blocked by trains. I imagine the rail line was probably there first.
In Memphis and Chicago, they have some creepy old tunnels under the rail yards for street crossings. They are large enough for ambulances but not most modern fire trucks oddly enough.

I thought for sure by 2014 we would have flying trains. We were lied to about so much as kids...

I can't help if the hospital was built close to where we deliver cars or the plant was built close to the hospital.. We have to do the test and inspection before we leave with our pickup.. All for safety reasons.. Want to make sure we can stop before leaving with more weight..

So you want a 25' overpass over any at grade rail crossing. Yea that would be feasible. ...
That's why I asked the question. And I didn't say "any", I said "most". And just because you don't think it's feasible doesn't mean it's not. edit: Or, as another poster mentioned, underpasses. I figured going under would be more expensive than over, but it might be feasible where an overpass wouldn't. Care to estimate a cost, though?
And the other side of the equation is harder: how much is it costing us by NOT doing this?

Look at my post concerning the lives.. most of the time it is the drivers lack of attention or carelessness when accidents happen.. People are so worried about being stopped most of the time for at the most 10 minutes.. If we are moving at track speed, we will be past you within 2 minutes..
I don't think the money saved will be greater than money spent on building overpasses..

I'm wondering if the hospital was there first or the plant. Regardless of which came first, it seems ridiculous to me that ambulances can't use the main road to get to the hospital. How often do trains do these inspections, or does it vary?

I don't know shite about shite when it comes to trains, but couldn't you do all that somewhere other than near a hospital? Like I said, this is the main road that leads to the largest hospital in New Orleans; it's less than a quarter mile from the train tracks.
I work for the railroad. We are in touch will people all the time about our crossings and we resolve issues. If the track was there first, it's on them.
Trains need to work, that's just how it is.
As for the timing, it's probably taking so long because centrallsufan is trying to get over time.

They do this all the time at one of the most busy intersections on Hwy 90 in Lafayette. They do it during lunch, and at 5pm. These guys are sick/demented fricks. They enjoy watching the people rage out because they won't move.

Trains were here long before you were bro...and they will be here long after you're gone.
You wait on them
ALL NIGHT LONG

We try to run on a schedule but there are too many factors to make it very accurate. There is usually an order not to block public crossings for more than 10 minutes but there's a difference between a train tying down and staying there and actually working. We do what we can.

Anytime we pick up we have to do the inspections and test.. Sometimes if the plant is large enough we will do the test in the plant..

They have orange and yellow engines.. That's probably the ldr Louisiana delta railroad.. It's a short line rail road that works from there all the way to race land.. Those guys are umm... Different... They go by their own rules.. Lol

Shoot I'm on a guarantee board.. My money is already made.. I'm ready to tie up... Our board is spinning slow.. Haven't worked in 3 days.. Getting spoiled

I have no idea how long the plant has been there, but Ochsner built at that location about 60 years ago (early to mid-50s, I believe). And FYI, the ER can be reached from River Rd, which basically runs parallel to Jefferson Hwy in that area.

Broseidon.. Which company you work for?
Posted on 5/1/14 at 11:51 am to CENLALSUFAN
Nice gif but you probably wouldn't mind some extra cash from a deadhead.
Posted on 5/1/14 at 11:55 am to Broseidon
That's all added into the guarantee.. If I'm gonna make some money.. Let me get off assignment with tow in mixed with some held away with that dead head.. Lol.. Go big or go home..
