Yet another reason I don't want a pool.

This is exactly how I feel. My wife doesn't understand why I am so against a pool, but I know 2 families personally who have lost little ones to drowning in a pool. It's just not worth it for me.

I don't have a fence around my pool. I have one around my yard, but not around the pool. But then again we have dead bolts on all exterior doors that requires a key from either side. We keep all doors locked at all times. Both of my gates are locked at all times. Also, I pay attention to where my kids are regardless of who's house I am at. They also make alarms/chimes for when the door is opened. My alarm system actually talks and tells you which door or window has been opened.

ETA: corrected my fat finger grammar

You're a good mom.

And I may have left out a little detail about my 4 year old smoking a joint while pedaling, but don't think it's applicable to the story.

You should still have a fence around your pool. What's more important....your child's safety or the look of your backyard?

I swim with my kids almost everyday. At my sister's down the street. I'd love a pool...when they are both older than 5.

the only times Ive seen a real smile on her face is when she's talking about the kid or a drink is brought to the table

Regardless when you do get a pool, you should secure it like your children are under the age of 5. It is a kid magnet.

My youngest is 3 1/2. I would feel a little better about it when she's older.

My boy was 3 years old when he darted out the front door of Theos on magazine st in between 2 cars into traffic. It was a miracle how fast my wife moved and grabbed him right before he walked into traffic. One second later and he would have been killed. That was the last time we ever let out Kid's leave our site in any situation like that or any unfamiliar situation. You always have to be aware of what can go wrong without being too overprotective.
