I don't believe he is scared of the animals he is thinking of the overall well being of the species.

I live in Woodlawn Estates and there is a red fox that comes on my back patio all the time. Our cat is an outdoor cat and we leave a bowl of food out, and sometimes the fox comes and gets some.

Unfortunately due to jackasses like OP foxes are becoming more and more rare and the varmits are more prevalently active.

We have foxes in our backyard. They are harmless. Even a cat can hold it's own vs a fox and they are not in danger. Leave them alone.
