some people just like the solitude man

I love going back home and being able to sit on my parents porch and hear nothing but the wind in the trees

Not necessarily. I'm in my 40s and I love having options.

There are exceptions to every rule. Some people are just urbanites. In general, the older you get the less entertainment you need. Most people (wherever they live) I know entertain at their home as opposed to going out on the town.

I make periodic trips to the city if I want "diversity" but know what I like, am comfortable with what I have and enjoy a sense of community in a smaller place.

I guess I just don't know what I would do if I lived in the sticks.

Country, hands down. It's really just dependent on the individual.

I lived on 2nd Ave in the heart of downtown Nashville. I could hit the honkytonks with a rock. That said, it sucked arse.

I can hop in my car and go enjoy everything Nashville has to offer without being stuck in that clusterfrick.

I like doing my crawfishing in the country because there is a low supply in the city but the city is better for buying designer jeans.

That's ideal, imo. Live in the country and be able to drive about 30 to 45 minutes to the city.

I suppose "the sticks" has a different meaning for different people. I'm happy where I am, for now but want to move to a small fishing community in the future. Both have adequate entertainment and establishments for me.

have a garden, enjoy quiet evenings on the front porch, burn shite, play soccer/baseball/football games in your front yard on regulation size fields, etc...

This is how we've been living for the past six or so years. I hate it. Long commute, very few amenities, kinda shitty neighbors. The city though is always too expensive. I spent my childhood in New Orleans. LOVED it. But I could never afford to live there at least not for the foreseeable future. But after I finish graduate school, our destination is probably Birmingham, AL. I've been looking at Leeds for potential country living. Not too bad of a drive to 280 for food and stuff but far enough away to get more house and more land for less money.

You should be able to find something 15-20 minutes out of the city that has land/country feel. You don't have to be an hour out in the sticks to have the country lifestyle.

Country is about as low on the list you can get. It's only above trailer parks I would imagine.

You can have the garden and front porch in most city limits and definitely the burbs. The extra land is a lot of maintenance and expense for a once in a while football game.

right

but not as big and you don't have to see anyone else when sitting on the front porch in the country...

like I said, it just depends on the person

I could live in the country easily, as I was raised in the country. My wife...not so much. I also enjoy the city.

I could never live in the burbs.

I've got lots of diversity out in the sticks. why just the other night I had 2 does, a skunk and a possum right there in the yard. I felt so cultured.
