I live on lake lewisville. Awesome to be on the water every day after work. In the middle between Denton and uptown area.

The drive up 35 isn't too bad, depending on the time of day. The worst part is leaving the bars and driving 35 minutes home at 2.

I live on lake Ponchartrain so water is always a draw for me.

Was exiled in Tx for 25 years, 20+ in DFW before a long vacation in the hill country and than home to NOLA. Was great for the kids/family. Denton is growing rapidly, as is most of the area north of Dallas. With high school kids, consider these, south to north - Coppell, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Corinth.

Some good & bad - No state income tax, lower insurance, lower cost of living, high property taxes, great public education, dry cities (yes dry, it's the baptist belt), the obnoxious Texas & Cowboys fans, professional & entrepeneural opportunities, keeping the Tiger & heritage alive with the kids, traffic.

Had an ole friend that once told me, in his best Texas drawl, "Suhaaan, ya gotta member that texans are proud of two thangs, their land & their women, not necessarily in that order". The bad news is the women know it - most conversations open with "What do you do or What do you drive?"

Where are you working?

Base on home prices, if you want to be close in to Dallas...

if you can afford a 3 million dollar mortgage - Highland Park

If you can afford a 1 million dollar mortgage - University Park

300K+ Lake Highlands

Suburbs:

Southlake, McKinney (way out there but better folks), Frisco/Allen (slightly douchier)

Edit: Saw you said Denton, northern burbs then, most likely.

Denton is far from Dallas. I would look somewhere in or around Denton if you don't want a far commute. Flower Mound and Lewisville are pretty nice suburbs.

Congrats on the new job. Definitely agree the opportunities are better here.

Thanks, it took a long time.

I love LA and it will always be home, but shite in Dallas just runs better. Great infrastructure. I find it a very liveable city. And since the cowboys blow, and the Saints are good, their obnoxious fan base hasn't said shite to this Saints fan.

I like the variety much better in DFW. La has better Cajun/seafood but that's it in my opinion. I'd rather have the BBQ, Mexican, steakhouses, etc... that DFW has to offer.

Yeah, Saints fans aren't obnoxious

To the OP. I live in Coppell. I spent some time between here and Denton. If I was working in Denton, I would at least locate north of Lake Lewisville. Denton has what seem to be a couple of pretty good public high schools in Ryan and Guyer. I think they are both going to end up in 5A with the realignment this coming week which would mean 2100+ students. Highland Village or Southlake might be decent alternatives if you are looking for something a little more upscale. Congrats.

Public Service Announcement. They are about to start re-doing I-35 from 635 up to Denton. It will be a clusterf*ck for a few years. If working in Denton, live there or maybe Flower Mound or Highland Village. There is a back FM road into Denton from Flower Mound. There is also a Train that runs between Denton and Dallas via Carrolton where you chain to a Dallas Light Rail train and can go into Dallas.
