I'm looking for a change of scenery and have never looked for plant positions.

Any tips?

My company will no longer higher any logistics or purchasing people without a degree in supply chain management or experience equal or greater for entry level positions. Do you have either of those?

Also, two of our strategic buyers are men. They work on contracts.

step 1. get supply chain management degree
step 2. profit

I graduate in May in SCM and have a job in manufacturing lined up. Good luck.

I have a degree coupled with considerable sales, purchasing, and auditing experience.

I am more than willing to accept an entry level position if there is room for advancement based on merit/performance.

So many of these jobs seem to disappear to family or friends.

The "scenery" at a plant just seems mind-numbing. I specifically did not apply for plant jobs out of college because I couldn't imagine working there. Now I have come to learn that a dollar is a dollar, so go out an get it, but I don't think I'd switch just "to change it up". At least working at a plant wouldn't top the list for sure.

I currently work logistics in a plant, but started off in operations then found an opportunity from within. Even if you can start out as a logistics dispatcher or buyer in the procurement department, experience is probably bigger than a Supply Chain Management degree.

Getting on with a plant as a direct hire is not easy at all and the old days of everyone getting jobs for their friends and family is over.

I can tell you what I've seen is that your best bet would be to hire in as a contractor as a buyer or something like that.
Good luck. The big players pay very well for supply chain folks.

Well at the company I work for, you pretty much need to be an engineer to get a job in Purchasing. Seems like the entire organization is made up of engineers and a few of us with other degrees. There are very few purchasing people at the sites, it's mostly located in Houston and at the headquarters.

There will be a posting for a spot here real soon!

This and HR and nearly every other thing indoor save engineers. It's like my first job at McDonald's in high school....guys cook and clean, girls cashier.

A male being hired in a plant office job is such an anomaly that you can't plan for it.

I agree. $100k is normal for Sr. buyers and contracts people in oil and gas industry.

I know two HS grads with some BRCC coursework who got hired by Cajun Contractors and Turner....making ~65k entry level purchasing. Pissed me off so much when I heard. And the chick at Cajun got hired by CF a year later(not sure what she makes now, but her kid now goes to private school and she has a nice new house...one her single income)

sales is trash, almost zero intellectual ability, mostly conning, pandering, misleading people. People with a conscience can't do it long.

Just a few months ago rando was put on the super fast track to being the CEO of where he works now but since then he has made numerous threads about job hopping but one of them was just a ploy to get the attention of where he works now because his boss posts here and it worked! He will now also be CFO, VP, the head of HR, etc. because he's too valuable to lose.

Used cars and the Verizon store? Yes

Outside sales in the industrial world? Multiple houses, more money than most ceo's, relationships and trust with your customers.

Based on your thread last week about your plant experiences, they probably never let you into the main admin buildings so you would know about the office environment. I deal with plenty of males in contracts/procurement, cost/finance, process improvement, PEI, project mgmt, etc.
