I've been doing 60 hour weeks for 2 years straight, and an opportunity has arisen.

830 less hours a year. 4x10s... So an extra 52 days off. Double the vacation as well.

But at a 25% reduction in pay.

Current place will probably offer 10% or so to keep me. So more money actually.

What's your number, where does time trump money?

Everyone's answer is going to he different. I don't have a family so I'm working now to be able to not work (hard, I'll have a job) in 10 years.

Only a 25% reduction in pay to reduce your hours by 33%? That’s a good offer

I’m a value guy. I don’t have any crazy expenses so I like at it per hour with transportation time included. Quality of life matters. If you’re a workaholic take the money and run

Why not just ask for more time off.

All depends on how much you make to start with and how much you need to live comfortably.

If you value your free time, this is a great deal.

You're reducing your hours by 33%, so you're making more per hour with the new job. With all that extra time off, if your budget can handle it, I'd be out of the old job with the quickness.

Is the new job willing to go any higher?

I didn't mind working a lot when I didn't want to be home

These days, I watch the clock to leave.

Struggling with this right now. Current job is very flexible and I get paid decent with a large portion going into my 401k. Recently approached for a new job that will pay me around 30-40k more, but I don’t know the time commitment yet or the breakdown of the package.

I worked nearly around the clock if you factor in travel so that I could retire at age 43 and now I don't work at all.

I don't even mow my own lawn, so I've done it both ways , when you're younger money is the most important thing, but as you get older leisure time becomes more important.

By the way, what do you do that requires 60 hours a week every week for 2 years? I work in a pretty labor intensive job and I'm not sure there's a single person that does that for that stretch of time

Unless you have a contract guaranteeing the reduced hours, I'd take the money from your current slave driver

It doesn't really work that way. You are still working those days, just less hours during the working day.

I do.

A written guarantee I will never be required to work more than 40. The company is great to work for. The work is just boring and easy.

I work 4x12s and a 10 now. Trust me. I've done the math.

Would take it in a heart beat if it was a comparable job I liked
