I ignored the question the first time. Choupique carried over our frequent disagreements from the Rant in an obvious attempt at a gotcha question.

Do you understand now?

Apparently you are fine with the education that they received, good for you. But the entire St. George movement is strictly about creating a new school district. Those parents involved want a better school district for the kids in that area. I don't begrudge them for that.

You kids have to tire of repeating yourself and making the same snarky attempts at humor over SG. There are valid points & concerns for both sides and belittling others on TD because they see things differently is silly and a waste of time. I hope I cleared everything up for everybody involved. Carry on...

I noticed you didn't volunteer any information about you or your kids' education although you expected me to do so.

To quote your line from this thread

I was just asking a legitimate question. I think 95% of the people in the Baton Rouge area know exactly why the people of St. George want their own school district, and race is not the key issue. The people pushing for St. George simply want an adequate school system. EBR public schools (non-magnet) are far below adequate.

You are absolutely correct.

I resolved to avoid SG threads. "But every time I try to leave...they PULL me back in!"

I don't rant and rave on this site about parents that want a good school system for their kids. So where my kids go to school aren't important here. You are the one always poking fun at the parents of St. George that want a quality school district.

Unfortunately, a school's academic rating is hurt for every student expelled which gives an incentive for principals to NOT expel a student. That's a shitty policy on the part of the state's rating system that even SG would have to live with. I would like to see the legislature get involved with changing that part of the rating system the state is using.

Wife teaches at a public high school. The quote above is absolutely true. Not just expulsions. Any out of school suspension or expulsion hurts a school's almighty school performance score. Thus, some principals are making the decision to not boot kids out the school. The kids know this. If the worst punishment a kid can get (with the exception of stabbing/shooting someone) is detention or a day of in-school suspension, that is not enough of a deterrent. Especially since a lot of the problems inside the school building get their start outside the school building.

I think the point of this rule was trying to prevent dropouts (another big factor of a school's almighty score). But this is a terrible way to do it. Put the kid in an alternative school (that's why we have them) and be done with it.

My wife has seen things in school that are similar to this article. It truly makes you wonder what in the world is happening.

You are quite passionate about the EBR public school system. It seems reasonable for someone to wonder why that is since you discuss it so often.

I wonder at what point Kip is going to throw Bernard Taylor under the bus, and realize that it would be much easier to just silently push to allow St George to have their own ISD, than to deal with this possible new city issue.

If the state allowed an ISD for St George, would that be enough for the St George City people to call off the dogs? Or has that train already left the station?

This.

It's a matter of economics. If a school's rating gets dinged too much for expelling unruly students, the principal faces the prospect of demotion.

The state's rating system needs to be changed, for everyone's benefit but the unruly students.

I would be content with just having the ISD and not the city. My main problem is with the school system.
