just got back from a week in Phoenix with the family for spring break. saw some spring training games, did a day in Sedona/Flagstaff, went to Scottsdale for a day, played some golf.
the weather was perfect and everyone was super friendly.
i know thats a small sample size, so im curious what the pros and cons of the area are. Obviously the heat in the summer is a big one, but cant think of many outside of that.
also you're within 5/6 hour drive of a ton- Vegas, Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, San Diego, Mexico, Mountains, etc.

It's basically a smaller L.A. with no beach and miserable summer weather. Urban sprawl at its worst. Food is good though.

Add in good public schools, low cost of living, no common natural disasters, all four major pro sports, and a Power 5 Conference University.
If you don't mind the heat and can deal with the desert landscape there really are no cons.

spent a week in Glendale/Phoenix/Scottsdale. Thought the (November) weather was awesome. People were very friendly and we added it to the list of contenders for places to retire.
Only thing I noticed was that there was more litter than I thought there would be.

thats kind of what i was thinking. we had dinner with a friend who moved out there and him and his wife love it.
hows the real estate and cost of living?
everything was very clean and good god the women. i just loved the little pockets of areas with cool stuff to do. the low humidity was a plus too.

Some do. You just have to work to maintain them. Our front and back yard has grass.

I would venture to be that anyone that has spent significant time in Louisiana during the summer would gladly trade it for Arizona summers.

If you like living on the surface of the sun for a 1/4 of the year then Phoenix is for you

Only one con, urban sprawl. Everything is so far apart. At least Scottsdale/Chandler areas have great roads/multilane highways.

This. Very low humidity; it really is a dry heat. Shade will make a huge difference. Having access to a pool is key as well.

My parents house in Peoria is twice the size of mine and sits on twice the land and probably is worth about the same as mine in Metairie.
You can get a lot of house for the money. Taxes are fairly low as well. Insurance on property is probably 1/4 of what I pay here as well.

I understand why lizards live there. Why people do and they call it home I'll never understand.
