Very solid chance I take a job up there and wondering if anyone has any advice on things.

I'm looking for a one bed and have been pointed to the Ghent neighborhood. Everything looks to be around $1k. Is that pretty much standard?

I've heard the Norfolk area is really nice. Anyone with experience?

Lots of sailors getting drunk, getting married, getting divorced, getting evicted, getting their vehicles repo'd. Just lots of sailors in general.

I lived in Norfolk for 3 years, my advice move to Va Beach or Suffolk and drive into Norfolk.

There are some good parts, but I know there are more sketchy parts than good. The little towns nearby of Suffolk and Portsmouth are ROUGH. HS football is on par with down south though
Stay on that side of the water though and do not move to Hampton or Newport News. Trying to get through the tunnels in the morning is a bitch.

Really....had no idea it was so shitty.

I know about the naval base and all the troubles that usually brings. Had no idea the area itself was so shitty.

Virginia beach if ur gonna stay there. Norfolk is ghetto af. Downtown Norfolk has the best mall I've been in and I've done a good bit of traveling and I'm not that big Into shopping. Expect lots of traffic between 5AM-7PM anywhere y go. Add 45 minutes to ur trip if u have to go through the Chesapeake tunnel

My wife's uncle lives on the St. James River near there but he's rich so.....

I guess technically he's by Newport News.

Prone to flooding too...big time. Underwater tunnels always backed up for miles too.

Military town all the way. Most people stationed there hate it, i didnt mind it though. May have been different if i was stationed at Naval Base Norfolk, but i was at JEB Little Creek in Va Beach.

Va Veach is pretty nice, but like i said its a military town. Lots of transplants intermixed with the locals. Ghent is a nice area, all the fun to be had in Norfolk is on Granby st and its vicinity.

Check out the Spirit of Norfolk and USS Wisconsin. Pretty cool, makes for a good date spot

Like any place it has nice areas but the Naval Base dominates the town in general. Rent will probably be cheaper in Norfolk for when you first move there, but once you get settled look into Va beach and stay as far away from Newport News as possible lol.

The whole Tidewater/Hampton Roads area is all military. I was stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton, but every city in the area has some sort of military installation.
