I think the Volt is a better choice. It's an electric car like the Leaf, but has a gasoline engine that charges the batteries after they are depleted.....so you can actually leave town on long trips like a normal car. No range anxiety.

Me too. Don't listen to all of these "gay" comments. There is not much wrong with the Volt.

KingRanch Thoughts on 2014 Nissan Leaf? Where does the electricity come from?
There's a kite attached to an anchor point on top of the car.
Only requirement is having to drive during an electric storm.

Is there a tax credit in LA for a lease? GA gets 5K. Nissan gets the $7500 i believe.

Nissan Leaf? Really?

I think it would be a great commuter car if she's only driving 20 miles. The Leaf's range is shite, especially if it's cold outside... But 20 miles shouldn't be a problem even if you live in Nunavat.

Teslas are very nice looking. Supposed to be coming out with one more affordable to most people. They have a Tesla "dealership" in the mall by my house. Those things are really nice if you sit in one(the interior has a massive computer touchscreen bigger than an iPad in the same spot other cars have their navigation system).

Any idea what a charge system costs?
How much energy does it consume to recharge every night?
I have yet to have someone supply me with these answers...

If LA provides a tax credit on a lease it would be interesting on a $200 a month lease. We have a charging station at work so the electricity cost is zero.

We are building a net zero house (including the draw from an electric car). Unfortunately, the electric options (other than Tesla) don't really excite me. Given that I drive a Prius now, I guess excitement needn't be part of the equation. We have about a year to decide and may just wait for the next Tesla model.

Don't do it. Why buy a car that has basically one use. Buy a Corolla with a four banger and enjoy a great reliable car that can drive more than 20 miles.

How do public charge stations work? Do you put change in it like a vending machine to buy the charge?

If you are spending say $250 on gas now and can lease that for $200 and get to plug in at work it's a no brainier.

I assume they have that built into the advertised lease numbers already.

My friend described it as the worst car ever. Lower mileage than advertised and inconsistent at best.
Speaking of, Jesus christ there are a billion Prius cars in San Francisco

Not sure in GA it is 5K for a lease. People were getting a 24 month lease for free. LINK

No it's not. Volt is WAY more expensive to own and operate. If you want something cheap to just go back and forth to work reliably in the Leaf is a fantastic option. There is zero required maintenance (except for a battery check but that's free) in the first 3 years of ownership, you basically pick up the Leaf makes your payments plug it in and drive it and return it in 3 years. I'd never buy one, but they are pretty great cars if you don't drive more than say 40-50 miles in a day.
