This whole "Prom-posal" trend is just a total shame

Back in my day to ask a girl to the prom we simply walked up to her, and asked her. That's it. And I am not that old. I graduated 11 years ago from high school
None of this bullshite garbage fanfare theatrics the men do today.
Why the shift? Howcome all of a sudden guys had to seemly put together some kind of massive orchestrated charade just to ask a girl to the damn prom(or homecoming or whatever these days)
Is it rooted in insecurity and fear? That men are so afraid to simply ask and so afraid of rejection they feel they have to put on some great show hoping that if they do so they have a smaller chance of getting rejected?
Or is it a part of the female-centric social media LOOK AT ME generation. That if the boy doesn't go all out asking the girl, it shows he actually doesn't care about the girl, and therefore the girl doesn't feel loved because all her friends got asked to prom by a guy who went all out, because she saw it on social media and they all got 300+ likes. If the guy doesn't go all out the girl cant post to her social media accounts about how this guy went through all this trouble just for her. ME ME ME ME
I have a female cousin in the band at her high school and the guy who asked her to prom had all these band members march through the courtyard playing their instrument with letter signs taped to their band uniform hats that spelled out P-R-O-M-W-I-T-H-M-E-?, just the gayest thing I have ever seen
Young men these days are maginas.

In general, men are just becoming more pussified and girls are growing up expecting men to worship them.

It's a Jewish conspiracy to get guys to spend money on posterboards and markers :goldennugget:

I didn't even bother asking. I figured it was just implied. And like a week before prom, my girlfriend says "So I guess I'm not getting a promposal..?"
They just want to feel special and have the spotlight for 5 seconds
Thanks feminists (and Obama)

It's not a new thing. I was in high school 15 years ago, and we were doing it then. I guess in Texas it is/was more popular and Louisiana is just now catching on?
We also did the huge homecoming mums and garters thing in Texas. Ridiculous, but it's what everyone did.

Tell her to wait for actual prom, then.

While I completely agree with you, this is just another step in males adapting to "courting" expectations.
Engagement rings are a sham, but they became the norm and expected not long ago so nearly everyone does it and some obsess over the decision.
Bottom line: dudes do what it takes.

That's what I thought
A part of the look at me social media validation generation that turns women into whores, whoring themselves out on social media just for likes. It's like a drug for them
"LOOK AT THE LENGTHS THIS GUY WENT FOR ME JUST TO ASK ME TO PROM, IT JUST SHOWS HOW AMAZING OF A WOMAN I AM!!! VALIDATE ME!"

All by design
Plenty of blame to go around
Not just the feminist media. I blame churches too. Too many churches teach men that you have to worship the ground women walk on, they can do no wrong, etc.
Churches 100, 200 years ago would have never spewed such drivel.

Yeah we did that in middle school, but by the time high school came around no one gave a shite about asking girls to homecoming and all of that

I agree 100%. With social media, today's women and girls have stupidly high expectations. Constantly comparing themselves to others.
These idiots are putting it on a pedestal. They are totally screwing themselves.

I actually think you're spot on with this.
Posted on 3/31/17 at 7:14 am to goldennugget
I don't know. I graduated in 2006 and girls WANTED you to ask them in some cutesy way. I refused to, and my date ended up doing it to me.

It's because social media has made everyone a star who just needs one viral video to be "discovered."
I wonder how often the porn industry sifts through the promposal bullshite for the right young woman with just enough daddy issues and need for attention.

I cant think of anything more meaningless than a high school prom
I think of all the prom couples from my high school senior prom... how many of them are still together today..... one? I can only think of one
I didnt even go to my own high school prom because I was banned(for fighting with a couple of our band members after a football game) but I went to a couple at other high schools in the area with girls I worked with. Those girls acted like it was the biggest deal in the world, but I was just along for the ride and didn't really care at all.
So why all the hoopla for something so meaningless. I had a lot more fun at my school's end of year senior party called Project Graduation than I did going to a prom.
