I found this very interesting and hopefully it can put some perspective to people who often jump to conclusions.

Eta: It's a "shoot or don't shoot" training video.

My Dad worked in gang enforcement during the late 80's and 90's here in Portland when they were at their worst.

I remember my Dad losing it when I made a gesture he though was gang related. Sometimes instinct takes over and it's not always pretty.

I am not sure what the solution is though.

ETA: how you would react going through these scenarios with out street experience is probably an exercise in futility.

we got sofa refs and sofa cops. mistakes happen but it doesn't always have to be the ultimate premeditated hate crimes made out to be.

it is the video of one of the original black marches when all this stuff started up a few years ago. They put him through the situation simulations to test responses. He shot or two of the perps dead and got killed by the others.

Saw this well over a year ago.

1st scenario I would have walked back around the hood of the car using it as a shield, knelt down and demanded the guy come back out with his hands up.

2nd scenario IMO has justified cause for a tazer.

This is what I've been saying. If the average American knew what a police officer dealt with daily they would probably comply when they got pulled over.

It shows a former protest activist going through what the police have to go through in a space of 10-15 seconds. A must watch video.

Man, frick being a cop. Having to make decisions like this, especially today, has to be nerve racking to say the least.

The third scenario is the most pertinent because most of these videos are exactly that scenario where the perp doesn't want to comply but yell that they are not resisting.

Yeah no shite. I wonder what their training says there, because if they say to shoot him prior to him pulling the weapon, that is the kind of thing that is getting otherwise harmless people killed.

Should he have been shot with a handgun though? Serious question.

The point of that scenario is to show them how quick and easy it is for someone to kill them. There was nothing they could have done.
It's no different than walking up to a car that you just pulled over, expecting a routine traffic incident, and the guy decides to shoot the cop when he gets near the window.

It's just showing the kind of danger they face daily, even in situations that don't seem to be that threatening, but can turn deadly quickly.

What most should get from that is how stressful a job being a police officer is, and why some of them are dicks to you. Be respectful and comply to their orders and you don't have to make them make a shoot or no shoot decision.

I think it was more or less to point out how fast shite can hit the fan, each and every single one as well but the first one shows you the "nice innocent dude" can be a threat REALLY fast.

Most cops probably don't shoot and end up getting shot in that situation, but guess who's coming to support the cop? nobody

the 2nd one is showing you how q

It doesn't matter. Some people don't care at all what law enforcement has to deal with. Most lower class people want to act like heathens and play the victim. You could not pay me enough to be a cop. They deal with the shite of society for shite pay and constantly have to watch their back.

My brother quit the police dept to go to fire. He didn't want a lawsuit.
