having a conversation around the water cooler with a young millennial. the talk turned to generational differences. I asked him what he thought was a more damaging trait of his generation, the rampant Ignorance or the utter apathy…

His answer…

"I don't know and I don't care"

I don't know, nor do I care, because lumping in personality traits across an entire generation is fricking retarded.

What about the older generation that has the a horrible savings rate, has jacked up the national deficit, nationalized healthcare, etc.?

Who is this great person? I must meet him since he is, according to you, the spokesperson for an entire generation.

Someone doesn't realize that his response was actually a pretty clever banter. You asked whether it's worse that they are ignorant or that they are apathetic. Is answer was to paint himself as ignorant AND apathetic. Clearly, you were too dense to grasp his humor.

He probably wanted to end the conversation because you're an a-hole.

Because my generation hates assholes.

Sounds to me like he gave a good answer to someone that already has their mind made up about a group of people.

Seriuos question:

Do any parents of millennials think their children have a better work ethic and drive as you have?

What kind of asinine question is that? If I were talking to you, I'd respond in such a way so as to end the conversation. Which sounds like what happened. Asking such a loaded question presumes an answer limited to the two choices laid out, and isn't really a conversation as much as it is condescension in my opinion.

Your story is best described one of two ways:

1) You made it up trying to make a joke.

2) This actually happened, and you missed that the guy was clearly joking with you.

Good job either way.
