In an effort to reduce the number of accidents we see in Baton Rouge, would you support a law that has a really stiff fine for the person deemed "at fault" in a traffic accident? Or, what about an automatic suspension of their license? Or maybe even both? Legally, would local law enforcement be able to enforce this on an interstate highway?

Surely there is something that can be done to either incentivize better driving or punish those that drive carelessly.

Honestly, Louisiana drivers in general should be re-tested every so often. I'm convinced 40% would fail

I would just be happy if they penalized all the people driving around with no insurance

Posts #2 and #3 above should note that those without or with suspended licenses and no insurance are a big part of the problem right now. Curbing these would go a long wayyyyy to fixing part of the broken system that is La driving and car insurance premium prices.

The Po Po need to be writing more speeding tickets.

I challenge you to obey the speed limit on any 4 lane street in Baton Rouge without being buzzed by several speed demons.

Impossible to do

This. We need to test drivers that are renewing their license. It would probably cut half the drivers off the road.

I support possible jail time for the at-fault party. Maybe a traffic prison?

I think New Orleans is even worse. Look at car insurance rates:

2. New Orleans

5. Baton Rouge

The speed limit on college and Essen is 45.

45 is pretty scary for a surface street.

I have left the ground more than once.

New Orleans rates are higher because of the road conditions.

Totally believe this. One afternoon I watched a sinkhole develop on Broadway. Before the city could come out and put a giant steel plate over the hole, I watched a girl hit it and tear the front axle straight off of her car.

Airline though p'ville and gonzales is 65 ! It's no wonder that they have so many serious accidents at the airline/621 intersection.
