This dream is creeping me out

Had a dream last night that I was back in the offices of my old firm, talking to another former coworker and business partner who is also no longer with the firm. When I saw him, I said "I don't remember you being this tall" as he looked about 7 feet tall in the dream.
This morning, I get a call at noon that this person died yesterday.

My ex's mom died of ALS before we started dating and the night before I heard the news that she passed, I dreamt I saw her and she was fine again. She told me I had always been a good friend to her daughter and to take care of her.
It was a creepy feeling the next morning.

A lady gave a talk at LSU some years ago about dreaming.
One of the things she discussed was how people have dreams about things before they happen (exactly like this) .... and how it is bullshite.
You dream every night and your conscious mind either doesn't recall them or basically fricks up the "memory" of the dream. That's what happened here; your mind overwrote parts of your dream and filled in that info with that of the guy whom you found out died. You dreamed about someone else, but after you found out about the dead guy your brain changed that dream to fit the situation.
Our brains do this not just with dreams - which are apparently the easiest to manipulate - but also with all of our memories.
I can swear to you that clear as day I can remember sitting in my parents living room watching the Deepwater Horizon disaster on the news and discussing it with my dad. My dad had died a year earlier. My brain has just replaced the memory of us discussing something else on TV with that event.
You can't even trust your own memories.

The only problem with the theory is that I told two people about the dream this a.m. before I was notified of the death of the person in the dream.
So, the "change the dream" theory doesn't work.
ETA: The way to remember your dreams is to repeat them when you get up or tell someone about them for reminders.

When I was a boy, I dreamed that the priest of our church had died and little devils were dancing around his casket. I was very disturbed by it.
Then the next morning, on the way to church, my mom dropped the bomb and told me. Did I overhear my parents talking about it in my sleep? I don't know, one way or the other. Creepy nonetheless.
