Crown Plaza's are older hotels. They were nice back in the 70s-90s but are now basically budget hotels. Since most of them are large, with conference halls and many rooms, you can usually get a room for $50-$70 on price line express deals. I tend to avoid them though.

If you spend around $120 on a hotel room, you lose the right to complain about it's quality.

A hotel is not the type of thing to cheap out on. You get what you pay for (usually). You paid very little, and therefore you got very little in return.

Plenty of old crown plaza out there as well as old Doubletree properties which are nasty.

Wait so you're taking a course there and complaining about the building?

What kind of hotel were you expecting them to put you in for a professional course? The fricking Four Seasons? Those always suck no matter what city you're in.

Yeah for how nice Doubletrees market themselves, their properties are usually pretty dumpy.

They are certainly Hilton's most random wildcard brand. Given how varied they can be, it's hard to even understand where they are trying to position themselves.

I've stayed in some that are really nice and some that are outright dumps. Those hot cookies, though.
