Depends on where you're moving from, and where in Slidell you're moving to. Might as well go a few miles down the interstate to Covington or Mandeville

Probably better than staying in Alabama and always dealing with your uncle trying to have butt sex with you.

Which side?

Actually, if you want a big house on a nice bayou...move west a bit to Lacombe, or north a bit, maybe even to Mississippi.

That would be a big fat no.
Unless you like skeeters, hurricanes, no changes in elevation, culture, and heat.

Where are you moving from? What does your commute look like?

Mandeville/ Covington is the best place to live in LA hands down. Slidell has its place and could be a step up from your current surroundings. It is ok, just the armpit of St Tammany Parish. Look more to the West if you want to wake up in God's Country every day.

Mistake? Absolutely. Move to Mandeville instead or Covington if in a pinch

Depends on what you are looking for. . Advantages of Slidell: 35 minutes to Quarter/NOLA. Lots of waterfront property, some of it affordably priced. (Eden Isles) great fishing, no real traffic. Some really good schools, friendly people who are not full of themselves. Much more affordable than mandeville/Covington. The shopping is ok. The food scene is unfortunately mostly chains. There are areas of poverty but Slidell is still a very safe place to live. Pearl River is great country living close to civilization.
We moved to Slidell from Mandeville for an easier commute 20 years ago and have not regretted it. My teenagers were bored but safe.

This is the best answer I've seen on here for Slidell. A lot better answer than the tiger droppings trolls will give.
I grew up in Slidell, most of my family still lives there. They enjoy it. Very low crime. Schools are good. A lot of new shopping and restaurants popping up.

I just laugh at people that hate so much like its some terrible place but the madeville/Covington area is some type of utopia

Yes, it is the OT so you shouldn't expect anything helpful. For example, you do not want to move to Slidell if you are single. Its kind of a wasteland. Or if you want to impress anyone. Or if you like fine dining, things like that. As for the traffic, Covington/Mandeville is a nightmare.

You would have to some type of moron to not like a house on the water in the lakeshore/oak harbor/Eden isles area.
