In medical sales you can make 100-150 in the right job. I can't imagine a geologist making half of that. Maybe you can work part time as a sales rep to fund a geology hobby.
Thats not really what you asked though. Four years are going to pass, you can either be a geologist or not at the end of it.

My ex was a geologist grad and couldn't find a damn thing anywhere around here. She's been out of school for 10 yrs now and she finally has a lead but the pay is shite. I suggest trying a different field.

You'll be in the O&G industry and outlook not great now but in a few years it will be. You'll make more as a medical sales rep imo.

5 years ago when oil was booming, they were paying starting Geologist 100k. Oil will come back.

He can take a year undergrad and apply for grad school and take some undergrad classes while enrolled as graduate. It's faster. Most universities won't require every undergrad class in the audit.

what should i expect entering the workforce as a entry level grad at 36-37?

the market is not good at the moment, but by the time you get your degree, the oil field should be back well enough

Not sure about geologists in general, but the petroleum geologists I work with regularly are taking it pretty hard right now

Literally everyone I graduated with that got a degree in geology (I personally do not) are looking for jobs in GIS, not geology. The best geology jobs require a phD

Admit it...You work for these ppl and you created this fabulous sign :

Outside of academia, you are over qualified and will not be hired for nearly every geology job with a phD. Even larger companies don't want many phD people. M.Sc. is generally what the industry people look for.

I disagree. I have a masters and a phD would be minimum 3 more years, most likely 4. Nobody is self funding a geo phD, and phD scholarships in geo are fairly limited.

True, but my definition of "best job" is something in academia. Pay isn't as good but you get tons of perks
