Thanks for the responses. I'm looking forward to seeing how well the college kids up there can put down the Boose. Like I said though, not very keen on going when it's snowing. Hopefully they wait till the spring to send me.

There is not much to fear about the snow. Winona is in a valley that protects it from drifting snow. Getting out of the valley it is colder and windy, making travel difficult. Nonetheless, they take very good care of the roads. Chicago and Des Moines have far worse winters than Winona MN.

Honestly, Winona is a complete sh*thole. Drive across the river to the town of trempealeau and check out Perrot state park. Lots of hiking. Also there is a national wildlife refuge with trails. Trempealeau has a lot of cute shops and restaurants. Check out the Trempealeau Hotel for live music (check website). Hungry Point is a dive bar on the river with great burgers.

Surprisenly, for being such a crappy town, Winona has a pretty decent at museum (brand new) with big name artists.

If you like apples, check out Eckers Apple Farm, appx 10 mins outside Winona. They also have beer garden with bands sometime.

I also forgot to mention there is a winery called "elmaro winery" about 15 mins outside Winona. They are local and have won a ton of awards. Another place with a great view

I'm worried about this. I've lived in south Louisiana my whole life. Never even been across the mason Dixon line. I don't want to drive in the snow.

Moved up there in the 90's and worked in Minneapolis for several years. Don't worry about the snow, they're prepared for it and they keep the roads clean. You can hear them running at night if it starts snowing.
