Gone With the Wind is now gone from The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee. The theater’s board deemed the 1939 film “insensitive” to their larger audience after receiving “numerous comments” that stemmed from a screening on Aug. 11. As such, the title has been dropped from next year’s planned summer movie series.

“While title selections for the series are typically made in the spring of each year, the Orpheum has made this determination early in response to specific inquiries from patrons,” read a statement from The Orpheum Theatre Group. “The Orpheum appreciates feedback on its programming from all members of the mid-south community. The recent screening of Gone With the Wind at the Orpheum on Friday, August 11, 2017, generated numerous comments. The Orpheum carefully reviewed all of them.”

The statement continued, “As an organization whose stated mission is to ‘entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves,’ the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.”

As posted on the Orpheum’s Facebook page event for the August screening, one user called the film “racist.” Another remarked over news of the canceled screening, “slowly but surely, we will rid this community of all tributes to white supremacy.”

All showings are Star Wars should be banned due to obvious enslavement of droids.

That movie will be banned in the next 5 years - i foresee book burnings of the novel and protest of Margaret Mitchell's family home.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles will be banned because it glorifies rape culture.

Yeah, if we get to phone burning or video game burning, there will be problems.

They will never ban that movie from my heart. That movie is one of the all time greatest films.

Funny when the movie hit it's 75th anniversary in 2014 no one protested the movie being shown in theaters across the nation to celebrate the anniversary. Hell I went to a showing (seeing it on the big screen was amazing btw) and even saw a couple black people in the theater watching it as well.

I vote for E.T. to be banned.

Why is it a white kid gets such a nice bike to ride E.T. around with?

I can top this.

The bad guy in the upcoming movie American Assassin, based on a Vince Flynn novel, is not a Muslim, unless Taylor Kitsch is playing Muslims now.

The whole underlying premise of the novel series is the protagonist is motivated by his girlfriend being killed in the Lockerbie bombing. I have read half a dozen of them. Every single guy he kills is either a Muslim terrorist or someone who is allied with them.

The people bitching likely didn't wat h or wouldn't watch the movie. Great businrss model -- let the non customers drive what films you show.
