This is EV stupidity in a nutshell. They really believe they are recharging these things with unicorn farts. This cat has no fricking clue where electricity comes from apparently.

These are niche vehicles. They’re not designed to run to Home Depot and grab some fence boards or 20 bags of mulch. They’re not designed for family road trips. They’re not designed to pull your boat or travel trailer for family vacations. They’re not designed to sling mud at the camp. They’re not designed for anything any red-blooded American male would/should be interested in. They’re designed for women and existing dude BMW drivers. That’s their market.

I feel like we're skipping a step in the process of creating EVs. What I mean is there a frickton we gotta learn and I thought the answer should be hybrids to continue battery research and this newer tech.
Hybrids have been around for a really long time. If hybrids were the answer they would be dominating the market by now.

I mean if you listen to TD, the only things that matter in a vehicle are range and refuel time. But of course those aren't the only things that matter. Those are just the only things EV haters have to cling to for now.

Hybrids have too many trade-offs, sacrifices that most people aren't willing to make. The ICE is small and underpowered, focused on efficiency at the expense of performance, to save space and weight for the EV components. The battery is small to save weight and space to accommodate the ICE, motors are underpowered. They are more dangerous than both pure ICE and pure EV because, shocker, high voltage and fuel are a bad mix. It's a lot of complexity for not a lot of gain but a lot of negatives.

How the frick is this your take? You sound like an absolute moron along with all the other idiots I've seen repeat similar shite.

Nobody thinks charging an EV is free. And the number of people who are clueless as to how electricity is generated is tiny but you act like anyone who appreciates the convenience of charging at home is a fricking idiot.

How fricking awesome would it be if you could refuel your truck in your garage? You're driving home, tank is a little low, no need to stop at a gas station because you have a pump at home. Who cares if it takes all night to fill up as long as it's topped off by morning? Oh and it only costs half as much per gallon.

Why not?

Plenty of people road trip in EVs just fine. Especially family road trips where stops are long and plentiful. It's the rare breed lone wolf who likes to drive 16 hours straight that it's a problem for currently.

I think the 800v trucks that will be coming out will perform well.

Well, one of your douche bros literally thinks he has an unlimited energy supply at his house.

Both of these responses were specific to Teslas.

bullshite. Anybody with 1-3 kids under 10 ain’t road tripping in any kind of EV on the market right now. GTFO with that shite.

They are everywhere down here. I see them every time I leave the house. Hell, about 20 people in my neighborhood have them.

Mostly white. Everyone loves them some white cars

Tesla is by far the best vehicle currently manufactured. It isn't even close. Have to love the Elon haters who have never driven one

You did what a lot of people on this board cannot do and that is make an objective decision based on your needs. You even failed to mention government incentives as the reason you hate EVs

I did make an objective decision. We were traveling 2.5 hours, with limited places to fill up for gas, much less a charging station, and staying with the in-laws, in a home built in the 1900's.

If we were just staying in Baltimore, I would have given an EV a chance.

And "hate" EV's? I certainly hope I don't. It's the future of my livelihood.

I feel sorry for anyone that actually believes this.

They can quote whatever stats or articles or whatever, I still don’t believe it and this is why.

quote:

It’s kind of impressive that the Tesla model Y starts at around 47k and the carolla starts around 23K. You would expect the top selling car worldwide would be an inexpensive car.

Not to mention that you just can’t find a charging station around the corner, not to mention it cost more per miles per charge than that Corolla gets per miles on gas.

I don’t need to. My truck gets 600 miles per fill up and I can easily bring along an additional 200 miles

What the chuds on both sides fail to realize. Their car doesn’t work for you, that’s fine. Your car doesn’t work for them, also fine. You can each purchase a vehicle that fits your needs.

That’s it.

I like the concept of an EV because a lot can be done with the features of performance and benefits. Here is my problem - you recharge at home so you need to go back home at the terminus of each trip. If you go on a trip you wind up stuck at a recharging station. You forget to plug in when you get home you get stuck.

It, IMHO, is a commuter car only and therefore a luxury to those who can afford two vehicles. Am I wrong?

Now do the government passing mandates that favor ICE vehicles and offering rebates to purchase such ICE vehicles. The market is not remotely even.

If all you need is a commuter car, they are fine.

It's because Hertz purchased 150,000 units. There is no telling how they billed out that purchase but I can guarantee that stat is skewed by this.

I was at the ford dealership yesterday getting my 2017 f150 serviced and I couldn't believe new prices.

I'll never get a new truck at this point.

If I lived inside a major city and just drove around town an EV would be an option.

Two of my friends have hybrids that can run on gas or electric. Inside a certain radius electric great. When they go on trips you can use 1/2 electric and 1/2 gas to reduce fuel cost. Sometimes you just have to use gas.

Eventually something like the above a decent option for me until the batteries go out after the warranty ends.
