Vice Documentary.
Vice News is one of my favorite channels and sources. They have guys right there in the midst of everything interviewing both sides. Ukraine, Gaza etc.
It can be hard to watch. Seeing some of the stuff the Mexican drug cartels did to people, or seeing bodies being picked out of a targeted building. It's not easy to watch but it's what's going on.

did the Ottomans implement, during the last caliphate, the strictest versions of sharia law or were the tolerant of other religions/lifestyles?

eparation of Church and State has to be the best idea ever to happen in the history of man. These idiots can't even fathom its existence.
Plus Saddam had Christians and Women in high places of power. In many ways they are so much worse off without him. Yeah he was a brutal piece of shite. But better than the alternative.
I feel like we will be battling these new terrorists for decades to come.
Our wars made more terrorists.
The Iraqi war was the biggest mistake of the last 25 years.

I place the blame on a couple of things in no particular order:
1. Poverty
2. Lack of Education
3. Islam
It's a fact that if poverty and education are prevalent, radicalism doesn't take large scale root. If those people were living in subdivisions like you live in, making the money you have...do you think they'd follow this nonsense? Not even.
This is primarily why Saudi Arabia, despite providing funding has never really dealt with this crap in-country. Iron fisted, provides all native citizens with a yearly stipend and makes decisions based upon business principles. It's the only way to govern those people, as they are mentally backwards with this Islam nonsense.
If there is a peaceful branch of Islam, they don't exactly make themselves known in the region.

That Vice dude was in serious danger in that video. It doesn't get much more vulnerable than that.
Willingly riding around in an ISIS vehicle well within range of potential targeting fire.
Huge balls there.

Yeah they've sat down with cartels in Mexico and Venezuela. (had to be blindfolded on the way in) They've interviewed rebels and soldiers in Ukraine, they've interviewed both sides of the current fight in Gaza, and they sat down with Afghan interpreters who hadn't gotten US visas yet so they are stuck in Afghanistan and constantly targeted by the Taliban.

I thought about this last night. It probably would have been better had we just left Saddam in power.
This is pretty obvious. Dude was crazy, but all of them are, and he kept things under control.

Well it was actually a mixed bag. They were tolerant so long as groups did not try to resist the overall rule of their empire. If there was even the slightest bit of resistance or dis-accord, then they'd lay the hammer down (See Armenia 1915 for a good example).
The key to the relative peace they resided over in the Middle East (relative being the key term) was not due to their kindness and benevolence towards minorities (Jews & Christians mainly), rather it was due to their iron grip on power for so long. The culture of that part of the world is not so much interested in the "rule of law" and "equality" in the same manner that we in the Western World are accustomed to (thank you Greek Civilization). Rather their part of the world puts more respect behind brute strength. Simply put, to try and establish democracies in the Middle East is a fools errand and a waste of time. Democracy goes against the very fiber of their customs. Instead, the only way to maintain peace in the Middle East is through an iron fist that keeps the masses in line. Sadly, we fricked all that up starting century ago.

So is Assad now fighting a war on two fronts? One against the ISIS and the other against the original rebels?

So what the Bible said is the Truth. One third of the worlds population will be destroyed in a day. The uniting of these nations must occur. And the map is correct except for one tiny detail. Israel will never be defeated or overtaken. And Russia, even though they are a target, will unite with these people in an attempt to destroy Israel. It is like reading a book and then watching the movie. All these things must come to pass.

Many people will ignore the signs but all will fall on their knee one day before God and answer for sins

It's pretty crazy the dramatic shift that happened. For it's first few centuries Islam was peaceful (once it was established) and led the world in many advances in the sciences and medicine. It all fell apart though
Shi'a and Sunni is all that needs to be said to explain that. Basically one side said this guy is the Sand Pope and other side said said that their guy was the Sand Pope and then it was all jihad this and don't draw Muhammad posterizing Lebron that.
Regardless, like ANY mainstream organized religion is was born out of peace and acceptance (besides their wars for freedom to practice their religions in peace) and then bastardized and exploited by evil men throughout the millenniums into what it is today.

Two things:
1. When you say "I seen it" I immediately imagine the hillbilly from the Simpsons is now trying to make this point I'm reading
2. And which sect of Christianity is the correct one exactly?
