All this gun violence and and drama is mostly stemming from our educational failures. The real weapons we all possess are our minds. Guns are not the weapons. Its our minds, our education, our hope, the systematic injustice that the kids in poverty struggle to crawl out of.

That my black and white friends is what should be the outcome today's means should be fighting for.

Agreed. And schools can only do so much. Education continues at the home also. In more forms than just 'homework'

Everyone has access to education. Most just don't give a shite. I don't know how you change that.

Agreed. It's why Nola is so crime ridden. People that didn't go private, got a horrible education more often than not. Generations of poor education lead to cultural problems.

No, the problem is culture. The education "problem" stems from the cultural problem.

Due to shitty parenting that doesn't value education.

Well, I'll have to disagree. I know a lot of dumb as rocks people that are good.

I say it's a morality issue.

definitely not easy. it has to be a socialize movement. our country has to support the public school system in means and ways that are beyond my personal abilities to think of. These kids have got to be assured they all have a great chance at success in life. Hope has to be real for them.

I think it has less to do with the school and more to do with the students drive to succeed. There are a few good public schools in nola area.

all cyclical, the parents and parents of a parents are mostly gone through the rotten system, we need to fix the future, not the past.

Here's how - quit bailing people out with free shite. Make people responsible for the bad choices they make....like I've said a million times "hunger is a helleva motivator".

People can learn in their schools if they want to.

The culture is one that doesn't put an emphasis on education though. Role models outside of school are few and far between in some cities.

That is the issue IMO.

I think it's possible to get a good education at a public school but you have to care enough to try.

If by education you mean from parents, then yes.

this is why I don't understand idiots getting mad at kindergarten graduations...we need to teach kids early that education is to be celebrated.

This shitty public schools is an inner city thing.

Texas has tons of very, very good public schools. Lots of states do.

I totally agree.

I think homework is actually detrimental. It trains our children that in order to be successful they must go to school or work all day, and then bring their work home or work late. This is absolutely not the case, and we shouldn't be training children to believe it is. The people who spend 12 hours a day at the office are usually the ones who hold the office back. They take longer to get things done because they have longer to do them. It's frustrating and inefficient and our workforce suffers as a result.

well yes but the education and guidance of today's culture will be the parental guidance of tomorrow's youth. Yes i understand Education is a dual cultural part. Something more has to be done to help drive these kids in the right direction. frick, give their parents more welfare money based on their children's grades.

THIS.

Certain cultures as a whole just do not place any value on education.

My ex wife was a teacher. At one time she taught a lot of deaf students.

Not a SINGLE ONE of the black parents would ever show up to take FREE sign language classes. How the frick do you have kids that are deaf and not even bother to learn to communicate with them?
