The REAL addiction that killed Prince

He took pain medications because of an excruciating hip condition... what's a person to do when his personal mental (i.e. not physical) addiction prevents blood transfusions?
He really only had two options: take the drugs or be untrue to himself.
Gene Simmons can stuff it.

Since you didn't provide a link, can you explain this connection?

He needed hip replacements but couldn't because that would have required blood transfusions.

Why could he not get blood transfusions?

Jehovah's Witness

I'm going to engage you here, Rex, because I think this is an important issue.
Jehovah's Witnesses and Christian Scientists, in particular (I don't want to single anyone out, but these are those I'm familiar with) have particular articles of faith that leads them to eschew modern medical advances. While I respect their beliefs, it is an interesting contradiction in the way the media at large treats another issue - this bizarre belief that a person can change his or her sex/gender through aggressive application of modern medicine (I would argue misapplication - other than in true intersex situations). While not a "religious" belief, it certainly seems to have certain elements - belief trumping (pardon the pun) science and objective criteria.
In the case of the JWs, attorneys study these cases in constitutional law, because there are many cases - normally the adults are allowed (as they should be in free society) to refuse life-saving medical treatment - but there are many cases involving criminal prosecution of parents who refuse treatment for their children.
It is an interesting, tragic area of discussion. There are no easy answers. Freedom isn't free. In order to have as free a society as possible, we often have to accept the negative consequences of other folks' actions. In this case, his fans lost Prince too soon. But, at the end of the day, all the choices were his.
It is what it is.

All of the prosecutions of JW parents I've seen were justified, IMV, both legally and morally. Prince's own mindset harmed no one but himself; children are separate people from their parents and in cases of life versus death should not be made to suffer the consequences of somebody else's deadly philosophies.

Ah! Well, that was his choice then.

Think about this statement and contrast that to the left's official position on late term abortions.
I'm torn on the kids, as well. On the one hand, I'm for the right of parents to raise their children the way they see fit. On the other hand, I'm against child abuse or neglect, and all rights are subject to reasonable limits. But if the child is being raised in this faith, the state imposing itself in treatment situations may be robbing the child of something related to his or her pursuit of that faith.
It's complicated. I have no easy answers.

Then why is it a a double homicide when a pregnant woman is killed?
