We have 8 billion people on the earth. I think we can afford a declining population for a while. The real issue is the people you want to have babies aren’t, because new couples in their 20’s and early 30’s either can’t afford a nice house, or are straddled with student loan debt.

Anyone who would downvote this can't see six inches beyond their nose.
This isn't some kind of conservative talking point; it's a mathematical certainty. People need stuff. Stuff requires other people to provide it. If you have too many takers and not enough providers, then buckle your seatbelt.
the only ways out will be massive cultural change (likely through mass violence) or massive government control over everyone's lives (likely through mass violence).
