We quit the present hassle years ago with my family, as we are all grown and pretty much have what we want. The wife's family, on the other hand, would cry themselves to sleep if everyone did not open a bunch of shite on Christmas Day.
I nonetheless bought one thing for my father this year. The UST 30 Day survival lantern. Runs 30 days on low on 3 D batteries, or 30 hours on high.
I got one for myself a while back, and it is handy to have around for power outages. Small, light, and efficient.
The Sweet Home review site rated it best LED lantern out of 13 tested. LINK

My Dad encloses his patio in the Winter and it gets pretty smoky in there. Between his cigars, the dust, and the cat, the air quality has got to be pretty bad, so I have bought him a nice air filter.
