Anyone familiar with the current Lumber Liquidators Formaldehyde ordeal? This is about high levels of Formaldehyde in their laminate flooring and engineered flooring.
I know, Poors, Cheep, crap, should go high end wood. Blah blah blah.
Anyway, 60 minutes did a segment on this. LL is using a Chinese company that is using high levels of Formaldehyde and mislabeling their product. Seems to be not meeting California standards for the most part but not always. No reports of people getting sick just lawyers complaining. I know after Katrina the Chinese drywall problems was very obvious and people were complaining about the Formaldehyde in the FEMA trailers making them sick

Anyone have this product in their homes with problems? I started to lay and then that night the 60 minutes report aired. Just a 340 sq ft room.

60 minutes report

Nothing meets their standards. Those idiots were trying to ban Coke because it contained a chemical that would give you cancer if you drank 200,000 gallons of it a week for 200 years.

They sell close out products from a variety of manufacturers.

Nothing wrong with laminate/engineered over hardwood. There can be good reasons to go that route.

California standards are not real world standards.

Considering where you are at I'd finish, and try to find the actual manufacturer and do some internet sleuthing.

Good luck. I'm putting in mostly laminate in a new house. I'd rather have a Lab than hardwood floors.

I know California standards are total bs. But they did toss out federal standards a few times. Very few however

They have crazy standards compared to the rest of the country. I am surprised they still let you use wood products there they are so fricking nuts.

When I was in undergrad, I worked at a Leslie's Pool Supply store and we carried a product with a similar warning:

True about California but the federal levels were talked about.

I'm just glad I went with Halpin's last summer for some hardwood flooring. I wasn't going to install it myself, so it was actually cheaper than using Lumber Liquidators. Plus, that placed rubbed me the wrong way. Sounds like I dodged a bullet. Lumber Liquidators even came to my house to measure, but they nickel and dimed me to death on the install and Halpin's somehow offered far better financing terms (0% for 3 years - that is free money if I invest the funds I would otherwise spend up front).

I assume you mean money, and it was more than one. Investors shorting the stock, namely Whitney Tilson, brought the idea to 60 Minutes to begin with. It is no accident Tilson was actually interviewed for the piece.

If you're not comfortable box it up and bring it back

Guess I can. It's all out the box and some installed. I can haul it back witha 20% restocking fee. But If it is bad then it is no good and I should get all of my money back without hauling any of it back

60 minutes did a hell of a job on this report if it's actually true.

Don't lick your floors and you have no worries.

I agree that there is an agenda here other than formaldehyde. Stock was at like 70$ last week and 37$ today. Somebody is making money.
