It'll be awesome seeing all the layoffs in LA and TX. It'll also be awesome seeing all the developers go bankrupt on all the new high rises they're building in Houston.

Why would this be awesome?

An attorney that looks down his nose at ordinary working people? I don't believe it.

I haven't read this thread, but I have a question. Is the sanctions imposed on Russia contributing any the the reduction in the price of oil? Isn't oil over 50% of Russia's revenue?

I bet he doesn't have to worry much about getting killed at work either.

I bet he thinks the 128 souls mentioned below wouldn't have traded their 80k jobs for another moment with their wives and children.

quote:

During 2003–2010, the U.S. oil and gas extraction industry (onshore and offshore, combined) had a collective fatality rate seven times higher than for all U.S. workers (27.1 versus 3.8 deaths per 100,000 workers). A total of 128 fatalities occurred in activities related to offshore oil and gas operations in the United States, an average of 16 per year. All but one fatality occurred in Gulf of Mexico operations.

I'm an attorney with a lot of good years logged in, so I can say this. Work on that professionalism, sonny boy.

up until the mid 2000's the oil price was never high enough to crash $40. Lets use percentage drops to see how many times this big of a drop has happened.

Someone gets it.

I'm old enough to remember when independent producers got rich of 36/barrel oil, and it's not like a hundred

not quite Einstein...the sub prime mess CREATED the housing bubble, what caused it to 'pop' was the increase in costs of food and fuel....those who had borrowed more than they could afford had zero cushion to absorb the increased commodity costs and began defaulting on loans...the pop

you're out of your league here junior

At $40 a barrel we will be right in line with 2003. Maybe we will win a national championship again!!!

I see a collapse of the oil market happening at the same time that social and racial chaos are taking over. Perfect storm.

One "uneducated Lafayette mudbug" doing an honest days work, is worth a dozen ambulance chasing leaches.

So you think someone that works 12hr shifts and gone from their family 6 months out of the year, including holidays, anniversaries and birthdays should be paid less? While he may be uneducated, he makes up for it with common sense and the ability to problem solve. You have no clue how much intelligence it takes to run a 600 million dollar drilling rig. This is a job that douche bags like you wouldn't last 12hrs in.

BTW I don't make 80k a year I make 3 times that.

As far as the oil prices go, I think OPEC is shooting themselves in the foot. The reserves here in the USA are not going away. Sooner or later they will be used. IMO this will help the economy overall but yeah it will hurt the oil industry for a few years.
