There are usually one or two or even three each decade so we are currently on an impressive steak. In the 1990s, there were SIX fatal attacks in America.

I was hiking today in Whiting Ranch, CA which was the park where the last fatality happened; the poor biker's chain broke and as he bent down to fix it, the lion pounced.

You'd be surprised how many regular hikers/bikers have seen them out there. I have had one sighting and luckily, like most people who also have seen them, it was far enough away. (In my case, which was six years ago, it was scaling a hill a pretty far distance away from me. This was in limestone canyon, another park not far from whiting ranch). You'd think there would be more fatal attacks just based on the sheer number of sightings. Somebody is bound to be at the wrong place at the wrong time eventually. Let's hope not.

To clarify: in 2008, a man was found dead outside his trailer in NM and they assume it was a lion but it is not confirmed.

I'm speaking not out of personal experience, but from second-hand account.

In a past professional life, I worked for a hunting company - a major player in the industry. One of our biggest reps, a man who handled our Wal-Mart account, was Arkansas country AF. He told me he was hunting in Colorado, and got stalked by a mountain lion. He shot the lion in the chest, entry wound and exit wound clear as day, and the game board still tried to charge him.

If you shoot a mountain lion, you goddamn well better have video evidence of it attacking you. Buy a gopro. Protect yourself.

It was confirmed and concluded that he was in fact killed by a Mountain Lion.

There is an old Brothel there in Pinos Altos called the Buckhorn Saloon and has great steaks. I have been there twice.

They have plenty here in Utah.

I know some ultra runners (50 or 100 mile races) who see them during isolated stretches as they run through the night.

The women all carry fanny-packs and a loaded pistol to scare away or kill (if necessary) a lion. Pretty hot, if you ask me..

Women also carry this in Baton Rouge, for different reasons of course.

What about the men? Do they just plan to blast the lion with testosterone?

Endurance runners aren't exactly body builders, but even if they were...we're talking about a 200 pound cat

Over the Christmas break a video was posted of a 10 pound housecat almost ripping a guys ear off. I think I'd be packing a little more than my pride and masculinity to tangle with a pussy that size

CSB:

The victim lived in Houston before moving to Cali. He used to race on the same MTB team as me. I joined the team shortly after he left and my team mates often talked about him. A few months later, chomp, he's gone.

crazy.

They are very rare to see, no? I was talking to a Grand Canyon Park ranger when we were there and she said that they average one sighting every two years. I suppose it depends on where you are. When I was walking on a trail by myself in Bryce at dusk, I got a really eerie feeling that I wasn't alone. Felt like a mountain kittie was stalking me. Probably wasn't, but eerie feeling nonetheless.

They are moving south. I live on the AL/TN line and I have multiple neighbors that have seen one.

They are definitely in/near Lawrence and maybe Maury county. I don't think it's an established population though. Go further northwest to Houston/Stewart county.. and chomp chomp I'm go back end up cat food.

They are super rare and not a threat for the most part. Bubba is more likely to kill me for being on his property.
