Very alike in some ways, very different in others. Boomers grew up right after college, served in war (protestors aside), and valued hard work. Millennials have yet to grow up a decade after college and feel entitled to success even if they choose not to work hard.

The work culture differences are striking. Boomers get to work early and stay late to get ahead. Millennials are task oriented and will leave work early if they are done. They value personal time much more highly than previous generations.

Perhaps the worst thing ever told young people was that to be truly successful in life you have to go to college. Fact is, there are simply way too many people graduating with degrees and accumulating insurmountable debt that really should have gotten a trade and been much more successful and happy in life, as well as more financially secure without all that debt around their damn necks.

That's of course not for everyone, but for more than most I'd say it is.

Prime example right here. Mir thinks older people "just don't understand". If they'd only listen to him because he's smarter and more wise. It never occcours to Mir to stop for a moment and listen and learn.... just like a Boomer in the 60s and 70s.

It's actually proven to be the baby boomer generations fault.

Like this is agreed upon by just about everyone with any understanding of economics and the effects it's had

You do understand that I'm 40 and exceptionally well off right? I'm just actually informed when it comes to how economies work.

Told by us Gen Xers and baby boomers who also are the very same people who made college the obscene expense it is when it used to be easily affordable with a part time job in the summer

Yep. And what's worse is the amount of blatant political indoctrinationgoing on in colleges now. These kids think they're getting an education but really what they're getting is turned into progressive drones reasoned to toe the progressive line.

If Gobbels could be brought back from the dead and see just how political our colleges have become, even he'd be amazed at the completeness of political indoctrination achieved by what use to be our education system.

Best thing Gen X can do is not make excuses like other generations. Own our frick ups and stop bitching about the mess on the floor we may have to deal with.

This "I'm right no matter what the facts are" mentality is sad. You cant back up your argument so you resort to arguing the man not the issue.

He doesn't he just reads about it and because he hears it's against his political beliefs he believes it without verification.

To be fair, a lot of jobs require some kind of college degree. Even if they majored in something completely unrelated, finding a career path without some sort of undergrad degree could be exceedingly difficult.

The millennials, on the other hand, take their name from the fact they came of age at the turn of the new century, so are usually defined as being born in 1982 or later.

This is my biggest issue with this entire thing. I was born in the mid-80s and the gap between my generation and those born even 10 years later is massive. We may have had the Internet and digital age come about at a time when we were in high school and college, but we still grew up with the same basics and values as Gen-X. We look at millennials the same way our parents (and even grandparents to a degree) would, and tend to side with the gen-x crowd on most matters.

It's kind of a "best of both worlds" scenario, where I can recall life before cell phones, Facebook, google, etc and I know how easy we have it now by comparison. There was way less materialism in those times and you could get by and be perfectly happy with a low paying job; and as long as you worked your arse off and were proud of your accomplishments you weren't judged by it. Having a college degree is now more about social factors and the fact that you even have one and not about what you learned towards your trade.
