MDMA for PTSD
Americans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, may soon be able to alleviate their symptoms with MDMA, also known as ecstasy.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration green-lighted Phase 3 clinical trials of the otherwise illegal party drug, which is the final step before potentially approving it for medical use, the New York Times reported.

And people said marijuana wasn't a gateway drug we're screwed as a country.

This seems like a terrible idea. It would make me feel good for a while, but after coming down off of it I would always sink into a deep, deep depression-like state. I imagine this reaction would only be worse in someone with PTSD. What do they do once popping ecstasy no longer gives them the high?

i am a contributor to MAPS (who is doing most of the studies).
I was actually submitted to participate in one of their studies, but didn't meet their requirements.

I'm pretty sure the drug was invented for use during therapy sessions so this seems extremely logical.

If you need someone to traumatize you so you qualify, please let me know.

Sure, but the effect ecstasy has on people is extremely appealing. This seems like it would have a high opportunity for addiction, and then folks will just naturally move on to heroin so they can try to get the high they no longer achieve with ecstasy. Let's not pretend that this mdma will just magically not get people high.

Mushrooms make more sense. It isn't the same type of high, and the effect isn't as appealing. Seems like there would be less of a chance for addiction through such a treatment. Dropping acid to treat it, on the other hand, would be a bad idea.

well MDMA addiction is a thing, the issue is that you actually won't get high if you do it too close to your last dose. I think the risk for addiction is relatively low.

well I dunno about any of that, but they are trying new things. early results are very positive.

I mean...sure. If we believe people will use drugs exactly as prescribed and no doctors will misdiagnose PTSD so they can write prescriptions for it. Surely we don't believe that?

Nah. Drugs are dumb. I was just answering the question posed by the other poster's meme.
