When did this become an inailiable right?

Why is it still tolerated by businesses?

Entitlement. Also, a positive review might find 6 ears a negative review finds 6,000.

So you just try to appease everyone losing a few fights on purpose for the overall good of the business.

Nope.

I never liked people enough to take part in the service industry.

I definitely try to make people feel welcome, and show them I want to help.

If you're rude to me right off the bat for no reason, I remind them that I'm here to help.

If they're still aggressive at that point, I give them a stone cold stunner, stand over their writhing body, and tell them their kids are next if they don't change their attitude.

I love when "customer is always right" meets "right to refuse service"

I'm not sure you are understanding the concept.

This reminds me of a Facebook post but someone complaining that it's unfair that employees have to give a two weeks notice but they can be fired on the spot.

It's a terrible motto. My wife owns a small business and she's fired clients before. She found out that she was spending 50% of her time on 3-4 problem clients. They were costing her money.

It's possible I'm not.

My gripe is being being edit* behind someone in line and hearing them trot out the line "the customer is always right" as if it's some magical phrase that get them all their hearts desires.

Sometimes you just have to trim the fat. I've definitely walked away from clients that just weren't worth the trouble.

Ok, I may have been misunderstanding your post then. I see what you are saying now.

I don't think it's being "tolerated" by businesses as much as it's just a good way of doing business.
