Those planes were designed with a bunch of guys using slide rulers in the 50s and even today they are a technological wonder.

With no weapons, what exactly does either jet do?

Recon. And weapons aren't needed when you can literally fly faster than anything on the planet.

i wonder, if they were equipped with guns, how long it would take them to catch up with their own fired bullets?
Probably look like an ACME Roadrunner vs. Coyote cartoon

If these are the specs of a 30 year old airframe just think about what is up there flying today for CIA/AF

Its actually over 50 years old which makes it even more nuts

Had to do a special inspection on one in 1988. Met one of the original design engineers.
Little known fact. When they designed the plane they theorized it would need replacement structures every 25 flights or so. Real world they found out the airframe actually got stronger with each high-speed flight,

Learn something new every day. ;)

Good thing Roswell happened, or we wouldn't have the A12.

A plane built from a element discovered on earth in 1791 powered by engines burning high grade kerosene, that is some high end alien tech right there.

All that tech and they can't figure out how to make the bastard no leak fuel while it's sitting on the ground.

Here is the reason it leaks on the ground...

The plane generates a great deal of friction in flight due to the speed. The friction translates into heat which makes the air frame expand. I think I read somewhere the Plane is 2 feet longer in flight than on the ground. (really don't remember and I am too lazy to look it up...) Due to that amount of expansion, they had to design the seams and tolerances with that factored in. Hence, the plane leaks fuel sitting on the ground.

Ya cannot ignore Physics...
