Does that state not really buy a lot of music overall.

It's the state where they're born, not what the citizens of each state purchase

TIL Steve Miller was from Wisconsin.

King George earned his spot in Texas and hopefully Beyonce doesn't take that spot.

Skynyrd was from Jacksonville, right? Backstreet has outsold them?

Rap and Country should take a collective nosedive off a cliff.

Would have thought California would be Metallica

Metallica is huge but still niche. People who don’t like heavy metal or hard rock will not like Metallica.

The Eagles cast a wider net.

All things being equal, lots of people who do like heavy metal or hard rock also don’t like Metallica.

Great example of how popular and good are not synonyms. The "classic rock" of the 60s and 70s was much less popular than pop and country, yet has proven to be far superior. Same can be said of early 90s "grunge".

For Alabama, it's Lionel Richie?
Not Hank Williams?

Hank, Sr. or Hank, Jr.?
Hank Williams, Jr. was born in Shreveport.

Photo shows Lionel Richie, but the article reads differently:

quote:

Alabama: Alabama
With nearly 47 million albums sold in the U.S., Alabama is the highest-selling country act in history, as well as out of anybody from their home state, Connecticut (kidding, kidding). The band is embarking on their 50th anniversary tour this year.

John Denver

John Denver was born in Roswell, NM.

Iowa - Andy Williams

Yep, that checks out.

Iowa - Slipknot

Oddly enough, yep, that makes sense too.

What does the word "from" mean? Are you "from" the place where you were born, or the place where you were raised? I ask this because Kanye was born in Atlanta, but he moved to Chicago when he was 3 and he grew up there, IMO that means he's from Chicago, not Atlanta.

Hank Sr has been dead for 70 years.

Lionel Richie had a ton of hits within living memory.
