SIAP, searched and didn't find a thread about it.
Anywho, on 16 December 1944, the battle known as the Battle of the Bulge broke out between Nazi Germany and the Allied powers (mainly the US) in the Ardennes Forrest in Belgium and Luxembourg. It was the largest and bloodiest battle fought by the United States in the Second World War, with 89,500 casualties.
The Allied victory exhausted Nazi resources and opened up the Allied advance to and eventually through the Siegfried Line.
Oh and George S. Patton's 3rd Army saved the 101st Airborne Division's arse.

I thought it starts on Sunday when millions of people waste money on gym memberships that they'll never use.

No. This thread is about privileged white males who died fighting for our country.

I thought it started over 70 years ago. Or did you mean to type that the anniversary of it was 2 weeks ago?

While Maj. Winters was a complete badass, they definitely needed their asses saved.

That is Buck Compton.
And a paratrooper never counts on a tanker to save his arse.

I'd say the Germans being fooled with operation fortitude was bigger

My grandfather was there. Didn't talk much about it, but said he was so exhausted one day, he leaned against a tree in the Ardennes and fell asleep standing up.

The Germans scuttled one of their own heavy cruisers in Uruguay in the early days of the war after being fooled by fake British intel.
So gullible. Lol
The captain ended up committing suicide a couple days later I think.

Yeah, I am sure the British paras at Arnhem think they were saved by tankers as well.

That's good and well. Except we're talking about the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army.

In scope, damage and death not even close.

The Germans not recognizing that the Enigma code was compromised from very early in the war onward was significantly worse.
