Who the hell goes to Afghanistan on a backpacking trip with a pregnant wife and children? I don't buy this I think this is an Islamic convert who wanted join ISIS. There is no other reasonable explanation. No sane person, hell even an insane person would say hey lets go backpack through Afghanistan with the family.

Should have left his commie arse in Afghanistan. He refused to leave if the plane was going to land in America after America saved his worthless arse.
Anyone that goes "hiking in Afghanistan" or "vacationing in North Korea" should have to sign a waiver stating that we will leave your dumb arse there if you get thrown in jail or abducted.

The State Department kinda says that as part of their travel warning:

You could name me the most modern/westernized area in the Middle East, and is still be 50/50 on wanting to spend ANY time there. Much less back packing in Afghanistan.
It pisses me off when people ski off the prohibited parts of a mountain. Puts rescuers lives in danger now because you are caught in some shite. Oh yeah, most definitely. I realized that I didn't post my complete thought. "If you are a dumbass and selfish/self-centered count, then it's not a bad plan to protect yourself." Of course it's a terrible idea if you have any sense of compassion for others. You got yourself in this situation so you deal with it. A normal, compassionate person wouldn't even dream of bringing a baby into that scenario.
