not sure about SA as they are predominately Upstream driven but yeah the other Big 3 are most certainly ok. Houston especially since billions of dollars a year of the economy comes from their downstream side of the business which is doing quite well right now.

Obama's plan to wreck the gulf coast economy appears to be working..

Has much more to do with Saudi Arabia wanting to wreck Iran's Economy. They refused to reign in production because they knew Iran was close to a deal that would lift Western Sanctions.

Their theory is that they doubled down on production in order to maintain market share globally. It also keeps prices low. Which means that when Iran comes out of the corner from whence it came, it'll be cutting off its nose to spite its face when they go to sell their oil on an already glutted market. They have to sell it, but it'll be like an almost literal economic suicide for their Government.

This is a geopolitical game Saudi Arabia is playing as they are tired of Iran starting mess in Syria, Israel, Iraq and just about everywhere else in the Middle East. We're just bearing the brunt of it.

Should be over relatively soon, especially if a deal is announced that lifts sanctions.

Have more faith in science. It can be done now. Just not cost efficient yet. Give it time.

Because I think oil industry affects your job one way or another. Unless you are a paralegal like stated earlier.

I know Saudi is trying to hold its market share.

Who knows? Obama could be in bed with the Saudis to crush his enemy (America) and boost of brothers (Islam) and he greenlit this Saudi plan.

It doesn't matter, anyway. Russia's whole economy is predicated on oil price and they won't the price stay suppressed for too long, i.e. start some big regional conflict to scare the oil industry.

Try to tell people that the government makes more per gallon of gas with their taxes, than the oil company does and they look at you like you just arrived from another galaxy.

But it is true.

Never? Give it 10 years and Musk will have all-electric 18 wheelers, there is no doubt in my mind.

People are oblivious to facts when talking about the oil industry and how much they are paying for gas.

It's all big oil's fault!

I never understood the hate of a company making profits, in turn paying a shite load in taxes, and supporting great paying careers for thousands of people

But they love their iPhone, that uses slave labor

Ive worked with the O/G industry for years and they way they spend money from top to bottom, from a personal level to the huge waste for entertaining and other bullshite when we're getting gagged at the pump, is sickening. To spend $3k a person for a weekend fishing trip on jackets, hats, golf clubs, ect. To flying from the big lake to vegas for the night. From strippers, drugs, to flying in lobsters. Several guys I know told me they get paid $130k a year to play on the internet all day. They are "safety" supervisors. Theres too much waste, and to try and make me feel sorry for those guys now we that the regular joe is getting a break at the pump, aint happening.

I have been over this 1000 times on here. It doesn't affect me. Well, not negatively anyway. If anything, the longer oil stays down and people are out of work, the more work I will have and the more people I have calling looking for a job. Hired two former O&G guys to cover Beaumont for me last week and had a dozen more apply. Months ago I couldn't find anyone over there.

Me or no one in my family will be affected by O&G or state budget cuts due to it in any single way. Ft Polk losing soldiers is actually a bigger concern for some close to me than what happens in O&G.

You're naive if you think there aren't people besides paralegals that aren't affected. Of course I don't expect much from you considering this gem you posted mocking me months ago when I said that gas prices dropping would mean fewer oilfield jobs. That's still one of the dumbest things I have read on TD in a while. Congrats.

It helps me save money on fuel flying around the world in my private jet, so I can spend more on hookers, blow, guns and steroids.

My favorite is, "But the oil companies use tax loop holes and take subsidies from the govt."

I'm like, "Do you mean tax write offs for research and development like every other company is entitled to under our tax code?"

Dry hole costs and seismic exploration are research and development. They aren't getting food stamps...
