When I looked into this class a few years ago before the exam was switched to a computer based format, Testmasters prep course format was set up only in the classroom and you would go on the weekends for like a month.

Well, I called today to get information again and they said their format has changed. Now they offer two formats, one being an online only class format and a hybrid format where the students meet in a class room setting for six sessions and cover some topics and whatever else that's not covered the students access the online content. One problem with this hybrid format is that it's only offered twice per year; whereas, the online format is available anytime.

My question for those who has taken the FE recently and used Testmasters, which format do you think will better prepare you for the exam?

I've been out of school for 15 years and I cracked an old EIT prep book and that shite scared the hell out of me. I couldn't solve one damn problem. Testmasters claim that their program is geared towards students like me. Don't know how much truth there is to that statement though.

I took the FE back in 2010, so I'm of no help for the new format of the test.

But you have to remember that it is a test of fundamentals. None of the problems will be overly challenging, at least they weren't to me. I thought of the test as more of a time management test than anything. Know where to look in the formula book, and you should do well. I didn't study at all, just looked at he formula book for about an hour the night before the test, and passed on my first try. And I wasn't a 4.0 student, so you can do it too. Good luck.

Those classes are a waste of money. I bought two books. One for the general section and one for the ME section. Had tobs of refresher material and several practice tests. I studied the topics that it had been a few years since I reviewed and took a practice test. I think the practice test was the most helpful part. I learned how to allot time for each question. Blew through the exam with an hour to spare for each section and passed.

I took the FE in the Fall of 2010 and felt awful about it.. but passed somehow. I didn't take testmasters or even really study. Just got real familiar with the reference manual.

I did take testmasters in prep for the PE exam which I took last month and I can not recommend it enough. I felt great about the exam and should find out next month if I passed. I really have no doubt that I did.

If their FE classes are anything like their PE classes, they will get you completely prepared. Considering you are 15 years out of school, it may be beneficial.

I never used testmasters, but I did take it while I was still in school. Since you've been out of school for a while, I'd suggest reading through the reference book a few times and taking some practice tests. Really everything you need for the test is in the reference book. You just need to know where to find it.

I wouldn't take a course. Since you are on your way to taking the PE test I would get one of the PPI books specific to your discipline. Use that as a reference and do practice tests for the FE.

After the PE I honestly felt I could have passed the test with only the PPI book.

I took the FE and PE not too long ago and the number one tip is time management. If you can't quickly figure out how to solve a problem, move on to the next question. You want to make it through all the questions with ample time as there will be questions you can answer quickly and easily but you won't ever get to those if you are stuck earlier in the test booklet.

Hope that helps.

This is the most important thing.

There is no doubt about this. I had friends that I had taken plenty of classes with and knew they were smart and knowledgeable. After the morning section of the FE, they said they had 30 problems left after the test administrators told them time was about to be up. I did the same thing in my practice test. I tried to be perfect. Instead you have to realize you need to answer as many as you can. If one is giving you a fit, go back to it later. Using that method, I finished all problems with more than enough time to spare.

Cant give you my opinion on the testmasters class, but goodluck on the exam. The exam was pretty easy imo. I assume you would take the EE afternoon part?

Yes, I think I would take the EE part. I'm just afraid of it b/c I've been out of school for so long and I cracked open a prep book and couldn't solve any of the problems in it.
