Looking at job in Louisville. Anyone lived or spent significant time there?

Any ideas what areas are best with kids? Schools? Etc?

TIA

I've been to Louisville the past 4 years for the Kentucky Derby. The downtown area (4th street I think) had decent night life. Seemed like a really cool town. Similar size to Baton Rouge. Areas around Chruchhill seemed a little rough.

Lived there for 4 years during residency, loved it, great city for families, lots to do, you get all 4 seasons, it does snow, great parks.

You'll want to live on the East End (you'll be an "east ender"). downtown is great but there are many different places all around the city that are cool.

Great schools for kids, cost of living is very reasonable for a city that size.

I would still be there but my New Orleans wife could not handle the snow.

But, in all, Louisville is a great place to live and raise a family.

Best kept secret imo. Was really surprised how cool the city was when I visited.

You want to be on the East Side. Louisville is a definitely a really nice place to live with a cool downtown vibe. Plus no helmet laws.

When were you in residency? I did residency in Louisville from 2008-2012.

Absolutely love the city. Great for families and tons to do. Has a big city feel with good restaurants but not so big it's impersonal. I no longer live there but frequently visit friends there.

Great area but traffic is terrible downtown due to construction issues.

I did some work there several years ago and was off of Hurstbourne Pkwy and Shelbyville Road. Seemed like a nice area.

The east side of Louisville is very nice, also the south east has great suburbs. The farther west you go, the worse it gets.
