Some friends and I take a yearly trip to do some major whitewater rafting, but last year was our retirement year for that level of activity. So now, we still rent a cabin in the mountains/woods, but our time consists of drinking, hiking, partying, boating, swimming, etc. This year we're heading to Beaver Lake in Arkansas.

We're staying about 5-10 minutes from Lost Bridge Marina, in Benton County (which, I just learned, does not sell booze). So far we're likely going to rent a pontoon one or two days, maybe hit Eureka Springs one afternoon/evening, do a day of hiking, and probably some fishing.

So, a couple questions.

Bars/restaurants to hit? We're thinking Bubba's for sure. We love old school BBQ and townie bars.

Hiking places to check out? Love trails with good views, waterfalls, and what not.

Are there any places on the lake where people either gather to party (on the water or on a beach?)

Anything else to know about?

I'm guessing that we need to stock up on our booze before we get to the cabin, but would there be any issues with us drinking said booze on the lake?

(Over under on number of posts until first beaver joke - 3)

I was also hoping for either Porky's or Friday the 13th.

I didn't even read the OP, but I could tell from its length that this was a serious inquiry so I replied with my disappointment.

Taking a dip in it is best when the surface is smooth.

Great choice, when are you heading up there? It's beautiful up here right now.

Not true anymore, actually. Recently flipped over and you can buy booze all over the place!

Regular lake activities will be great, but there's tons to do off of the lake as well. Eureka Springs isn't too far away and it has a unique, quirky downtown area. It's a fun day/overnight trip. You can also venture into Bentonville/Rogers area as well. Several great restaurants on the Bentonville Downtown Square as well as Downtown Rogers. Fayetteville is also great but more of a drive since you already be on Beaver Lake.

If you want good hiking, check out Devil's Den (a bit south of Fayetteville) or around the Buffalo River area. King's River Falls is a great day hike/chill. Take some beer, some chairs, and get ready to swim/drink/chill.

No issue drinking on the lake whatsoever, just don't be an idiot about it. As far as if people congregate, I'm unsure on that (sorry).

If you have questions on specifics with the area, I can try to help out!

Umm, the backdrop is great, but the foreground has some issues that need explaining...

Thanks for the detailed reply. We heading there in mid June, so hopefully it'll be nice and toasty and the lake will be warmed up. And we all live in big cities and deal with a lot of noise, so we just like getting away to the mountains, water, quiet...really looking forward to it.

Is Bubba's the best BBQ place in the area?

If we wanted to do some fishing, what's our best bet? Live bait? Lures? What kind of fish? Would we be able to catch anything just fishing off the dock? My family has a lakehouse in northern Wisconsin and we can catch small panfish off the dock, but nothing of any real size.

I'm a bit older and remember the wild west of snatch. It's the little bush on the right that gives me pause.

Bubba's is great if you head to Eureka Springs. I enjoyed it, but I've only had it once.

If you head back towards the Rogers area, I think the best is Smokin' Joes, which is near downtown Rogers. If you want to venture further down Hwy 71B into Fayetteville, Whole Hog or Penguin Ed's is really good.

TBH, I haven't fish too much on Beaver Lake, so I wouldn't be a good resource on it. I imagine you'll have to venture out onto the lake to find bigger fish but I bet you can catch some off of the dock (I wouldn't expect any river monsters though).

It will be awesome in late June; good choice. The drive out there will be awesome and you'll certainly have some piece and quiet. Let me know if you have any more questions about places up and here and I'll let you know my thoughts/experience.

Actually going down 6/10-6/14. I was off by a bit.

Smokin Joe's looks like a chain. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but character and originality are kind of important qualities as well. I'll do some research.

If we head into Fayateville, we need to stop at a bar and buy a round of shots for some students so that they realize that Badgers are awesome people. We missed opportunities years ago when we were driving through Morgantown, and last year when we were right by Clemson.

I think Smokin' Joes only has a couple of locations, just in NWA. You're looking at this one, yes? The first reviewer is a person from Wisconsin, haha.

Dickson Street will be a little bit quieter during the summer, but it will still be fun on a Friday/Saturday night
