block the numbers

That used to help for me, but not anymore. They usually start the day with a fresh block of numbers. They spoof a number within an area code and exchange and call any "good" numbers they have in that. That increases the chance of a pickup - which is all the scammer really wants - they need so many pickups to get a live mark and then they get commissions on what they actually get from the marks.

They don't care about DNC lists because they're in the Subcontinent, Indonesia, Jamaica, Nigeria, etc. You need a whitelist or subscribe to a good shared block list (but really, since they roll from day to day - a true whitelist is all you can really do in the long run).

It's not just scammers either.... Sirius/XM has done it (spoof local phone number) to me since I let that subscription expire.

I got a phone call yesterday from a local number.

Called it back because I was busy. Lady told me she didn't call me and hadn't called anyone recently.

Pretty weird though she seemed like a huge count saying I had the wrong number. Was on my cell so I just hit the missed the call to call back.

She didn't call you. That's caller ID spoofing. They trick the caller ID systems and can make anyone's number pop up on your caller id

If you get a strange number go to safari on your iphone (or your PC browser) and type in the number and you can see others reported it as a scam or telemarketer.

Ya, I've never actually called one back and had someone answer though. Normally the number I get aren't real.

Warning for us one-foot-in-the-gravers - Medicare said they will be coming out with a new card for us in 2018. Our SSNs will be dropped and we'll receive an ID#. The article also warned about a scam where people call and demand you send in a payment to receive the card. Don't do it!

She may not have called anyone. The robocalls will spoof caller ID so she's probably gotten a few callbacks from people despite it may not being her that made the call in the first place.

Downloaded the App Mr.Number and haven't gotten one since. It does apparently take a nice look into my phone data if you're worried about privacy. I am fine with the trade off.

Careful with this too bc some of them are just trying to get you to say the word "yes" on record and they will then use that to defraud you.

I had this robo call come through just yesterday and I tried to frick with him. He asked me some layup intro question trying to get me to say yes and I said "no", which he immediately hung up.

This exact exchange happened to me this morning. She said " No, that's impossible I haven't touched my phone in hours."

I wonder if these people are using legit local numbers and its just a coincidence that we both got the same reply.

GD card services

Melissa wants your personal info and card #s so some 3rd world shithole criminal can rip you off. I have spent hours f'ing with them on the phone. They don't even try to hide it once you get to a human (in India). The last one I messed with, when I asked to speak with a supervisor, told me he (supervisor) couldn't come to the phone because he was too busy fricking my wife. LOL!

I can only imagine the # of people that give them the info they ask for and then wonder why their cards have a ton of fraudulent changes a day or two later.
