On 73 between Airline and 42. Road was closed for three hours. Trying to find news link. Tragic.

PRAIRIEVILLE - State Police said a juvenile on a bicycle was killed in a crash with a pick-up truck Wednesday night.

The crash happened on Highway 73 at Jefferson Crossing north of Airline Highway. The road was closed until late Wednesday as authorities investigated what happened. Investigators said both the truck and bicycle were headed southbound when the wreck occurred.

A WBRZ employee who happened upon the accident reported the bicycle was tangled under the truck.

Authorities said they would not release the name of the juvenile until family members had been notified. More information is not expected to be announced until Thursday morning.

Story with blurry picture of bike mangled under truck.
DOn't let the lights fool you. It is very dark there with no shoulder whatsoever and the speed limit is 50.

That's terrible and a very unsafe place to ride.

Why a teenager or anyone is riding there with no shoulder and in the dark is beyond me

Agreed, horrible. I'm glad the just put some sidewalks and a real shoulder when they redid 73 to prevent things like this from happening. Before I had a truck I went everywhere on my bike down those roads, sad way to go

On the side where the accident was, there are still no shoulders or lights

My kid told me about this about an hour before it hit the news, very sad deal. If the info going around social media is correct, just a freshman. I can't imagine the pain of the parents and family involved.

This looks just like a friend of mines truck. Really hoping it wasn't him.

I'm not anti cycling, around my house it's huge because of huge shoulders on the side of the road. That being said there are many times late at night someone will be on a road that's really dark with just a tiny light on their bike. I wish people would think more before choosing their routes.

14-yr olds are not that sophisticated to think like an adult.

I understand that but there have been a couple killed here and both were adults.
