Glad for her. Apparently she worked hard through school and will get a great chance to attend college and make something for herself. Her family certainly should be proud. Of course, applying to 113 colleges would be considered excessive, IMO.

When it came to choosing which college she would attend, one North Carolina teenager had plenty of options after she was accepted to more than 100 schools.
Jasmine Harrison, 17, plans to attend Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, on a full ride scholarship, according to WFMY. She will major in biology and wants to become a NICU nurse.
But it wasn’t easy for the teenager to make that decision. The 17-year-old was accepted to 113 colleges and awarded $4.5 million in merit-based scholarships. "When I got the first couple in the mail, I was like, 'OK, this is really happening.' I didn't really think I'd be able to do that," Harrison told WFMY.

Harrison was awarded full rides to three schools: Bennett College, Ed Waters College in Jacksonville, FL, and Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS.
With help from her mother and school’s faculty, WFMY reports Harrison was able to apply to all the schools for just $135.

The teenager spent hours pouring over each entry, making sure they were perfect, and when she wanted to quit, she called on her faith.

Luckily, Harrison was able to apply to 53 Historically Black Colleges and Universities with just one application. She also used the common application to apply to 20 more at once. Harrison will graduate May 24 from The Academy at Smith in Greensboro, with an expected 4.0 GPA.

Looks like 75 was with one application.
I applied to three. Lsu, Loyola and Fordham.

I concur. Why even apply to a school that you have no intentions to attend?
Other than that, she is obviously a very bright individual who has worked very hard.

I’m pretty affirmative how she got into so many schools.
Also, applying to that many schools seems like an attention grab. There’s no way you could possibly have been torn between 113 colleges.

How much is an application fee these days? $50? So, she spent over $5,500 on fees?
Yes, that seems excessive, unless she was a master of getting fee waivers.
ETA: I missed the part about her only paying a little for all the applications. I should read next time.

I’d like to hear more about kids like this and less about skinny armed betas like David Hogg.

Why do we have AA colleges but not white only colleges? Serious question...

Says in the post she spent a total of 135 bucks on application fees.
One application got her accepted to all of the HBC’s.
A second got her accepted to another 20 schools.

Historically black colleges are open to all races.

I know that. But why do they feel the need to be labeled as such?

HBCU’s aren’t black only.

B/c historically black colleges have a history of providing college education to black people.

Why don’t you just ask The Grand Wizzard at your next meeting?

Historical black colleges were created prior to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Pretty much, black students couldn't attend universities in the US (at least without a huge media uproar and a difficult path), so they created their own. Nowadays, these colleges are considered to be "black colleges," but people seem to miss the "historical" word that comes first. They aren't really black-only schools; any white person can apply.
In fact, some HBCUs are predominantly white such as Bluefield State College and West Virginia State University.

I know a lot of kids who could have been accepted at dozens of colleges if they had paid the application fees to each one. The only reason to apply to so many is so that when it is announced at graduation everyone goes "ooh." This girl was able to apply to 50 historically black colleges with one application and 20 more with another. At least they didn't waste the $50-$100 it usually costs per application.

they are historically black. they are open to all races. back in the segregation days they couldn't go to white people schools so they are kind of being cool about the whole thing when they let us in their place.

Getting your thong all twisted because there aren’t any all white colleges is a little bit racist homey.
