Or is it a big scam for the government to keep tracking me.

The government definitely wants to know how much Cap'n Cruch you eat.

Our PTA shares their financials twice a year, and box tops were a little over $1000 in revenue. Elementary school. Probably 300-400 kids. Not much, but something.

The PTO at my kids' elementary school used to collect them. One year we got like $1200 from them which was used to fulfill teachers' wish lists for their classrooms.

This was when you had to cut the actual box top labels off of boxes, before they went to the "scan your receipt" or whatever BS they do now. As far as I know, the school is no longer doing it because nobody wanted to scan their receipts.

Yes, schools get money, I am PTO president at our school and as others have said we got way more revenue when they clipped and sent in vs. scanning receipts. We have gone from $1000 plus twice a year to a couple of hundred of dollars. We use the money for teacher grants. Teaches apply twice a year for materials for their classroom that would enhance the children’s learning, readers, hands on manipulative, STEM materials. Anything that the school’s budget can not pay for but can contribute to the children’s education. We also do Community Coffee cash for schools.
