I teach mentally ill teenagers in a mental health facility. As difficult as the kids can be, it is better and safer than teaching at a public school.

That doesn't make sense, I thought sending kids to school socialized them so they would then know how to act in public.

Exactly. Spot on.

ETA…This entire thread is a troll. Otherwise, I’m lost.

I wasn’t trying to troll. Those kids were so poorly behaved. They couldn’t even give me and my coworker attention for even a few minutes of our lesson

People who aren't exposed to public schools have no idea how bad it is daily for public school teachers.

Correct. Most have no clue. Go to you nearest inner city school and sit in for the day. Most won’t last 30 minutes. You would be in for a very rude awakening.

It's not just inner city. My wife's school is a suburban school and it has gotten terrible theist 10 years. It's absolutely absent parenting that has gotten us here.

You couldn’t pay enough money to put up these kids and parents most teachers have to deal with everyday

Thank you for posting this. Exactly why I left the teaching profession and can’t stand posts saying teachers are overpaid.

My wife the teacher would agree with you.
She has changed schools 4x in her 15 years of teaching and the kids are the same at each stop.
She would quit tomorrow if I would say "Ok, we don't need your pension".
She's certified and wants out of the classroom in a bad way.

The teacher we assisted today said if she hadn’t been teaching for 20 years already she’s jump to a different profession because the kids seem to get worse and worse each year

Most or all of the haters on here wouldn't have the courage to spend a day in the classroom.

I’m a high school teacher and the most difficult thing I do all week is ….. when my wife and I teach first grade Sunday School at Church for 80 minutes.

Elementary school teachers are saints.

Polk county in FL is holding job fairs in Puerto Rico, because they are unable to fill their teacher, janitorial, and lunch lady slots locally. They feel that having bilingual folks will be helpful.

They are advertising almost $50k to start. That's for 36 weeks of teaching. They do 180 days here.

Make teachers spend 52 weeks with kids for $50,000 or pay them 30,000 with a degree for 36 weeks - if you think it’s a shortage now, try that and see what you get. Go sub a day at inner city NOLA school and get back with us. Maybe you can find a school around I10 and Louise street exit while you’re at it and get a double whammy.

No disrespect to you, op.

Teachers unions are run by thugs and leftists. Many have abandoned their initial resolve to educate children. Rather, they have taken on the job of indoctrinating our children in leftist ideology.

They abandoned our children during Covid, and selfishly hid away behind a computer screen while our children suffered the results of being locked down.

I have no respect for them. They are cowards.
