I am a photographer. Last week and this week, I am volunteering my time and skill in photographing events for the Baton Rouge Symphony.

The event I did Sunday was a 3-hour event. I shot the event and ended up donating over 60 images. I am also shooting the Art-ini this Thursday for the symphony, another 3-hour event.

Can I claim the images donated to the symphony as a tax deduction? I know I cannot claim my time as a volunteer.

If I put a value of $500 (pretty cheap for an event photographer), is this tax deductible, even though I am not spending any money out of pocket?

Not a tax lawyer, but you don't really need to be.

You don't get a deduction for your assigned value. Basically, you get your actual cost.

Think about it this way, you didn't take that $500 into income, so why would you get a deduction for that amount.

No need to think about it, Google gives the answer in about ten seconds.

You can deduct the costs associated with your transportation to the locations you went to, but that is about it.
