Ehh, so you're going to completely ignore the federal and state tax breaks you would have received in that calculation?

I honestly believe if everyone had to this and not have it automatically withheld from paychecks, there would be some sort of revolt against these morons running the country.

Agreed.

Probably about $1300, which is good without spending too much time to get it closer to zero.

Will have to pay, quite a bit.

For those of you getting big refunds, you should adjust your witholding, you are basically giving an interest free loan to the gov.

Well, I shouldn't say "getting back" since I never paid anything in.

I adjusted my exemptions because this past year we added a kid and went to 1 income, but guess I didn't claim enough. My goal is to get nothing back. I'd rather have that money on my paycheck.

Bravo good sir. If you want to get it more accurate, try plugging your estimated taxable wages for 2016 into a simple tax calculator like this. Adjust for your filing status and exemptions and see what your estimated federal tax owed is going to be. Divide that by your paychecks per year and shoot for that withholding on each paycheck. If your HR website has a paycheck calculator it can help tremendously.

Prepare for the flurry of down votes that usually follow sound financial advice.

Advice needed:

Should I file my own or take them to a professional (whether CPA or H&R block)?

Single. No dependents. $75k. Student loans out the arse.

TIA

First year paying back in.....frick the government.

This $700 check should be spent on blow and strange muff caverns before it should be in the hands of the IRS.

Try turbotax. It's a breeze if your tax situation is fairly uncomplicated. It's thorough.

I have gotten money back once in the last 5 years and that was the year I bought a Tahoe and had a kid (2012). Last year I went through an audit by the IRS for year 2012. fricking greedy bastards.

EIC used to be nice, but then I look back and remember the only way I got the EIC is because I made "not so much" money.
