this is the one you want. It's 16 packet design is perfect for Cox. Cox has up to 12 packets so the overkill is ok. The one linked before that is 4x.

That is extreme overkill for 50. That's overkill for 100.

correct. Had a Cox tech at my home told me Cox runs a 12 packet system.
Getting a modem under that will be cheating yourself

Are there any alternatives for internet in New Orleans besides Cox(Uverse not available)?

They support at least 12 channels, actually. Some places have 24, possibly more. The SB6121 is a common suggestion, but that modem should really be retired from the suggestion pool.

From my experience around baton rouge, an 8x4 modem is acceptable up to 100mbps. As stated, there is no harm in going with more since you'll be able to use at least 12 downstream channels, but you can also get used/refurb 8x4 modems for dirt cheap sometimes -- for example, the Cisco DPC3010: LINK

But if you're psychologically averse to buying used and plan to spend the $67 on a new SB6141, I fully agree that you might as well spend another $30 for the SB6183.

correct which is why you want to buy the 16 channel modem.

Best out right now is

SB6190

Complete overkill but it will be future proof for a long time.

Because I know what I'm talking about. And if you read my post, you'd see that I said 8x4 is a viable option because of how cheaply you can get one of those perfectly fine Ciscos used. If one chooses to buy new, might as well spring for 16x8. But I already said that, too.
