horizontal tail stabilizer damaged.
This could have ended much much worse.

Planes are able to operate safely with only one engine but they can't operate if the plane is badly damaged. It sounds like the plane had some significant damage to the wing and stabilizer. Which is a huge deal.

For a guy who's name is The Boat you sure know a lot about planes.

With that much damage, I'd guess that a fan disc failed and tore itself apart.

yep. either serious failure of rare proportion OR failed/skipped maintenance which would be a HUGE deal
I am really hoping the former....and chalk it up to rare event and good luck/skilled pilots

found this pic of the plane with the same tail number to give some perspective on how much of the engine was torn off mid-flight

ain't reading through all of this but just saw the media coverage, as usual, they don't ask before reporting nonsense, a recreation of the pilots "gasping for breath," is normal breathing with O2 masks on with a hot mic, dumbasses!

Just so you know, airline pilots are heavily trained to fly with only one engine. Most likely the plane will be under complete control and land at the nearest airport if it does happen.
How is the airplane not completely out of balance when that happens? I'm amazed it could still fly with one engine

I wonder how long it's going to take to get the smell out of the seats....???

What adjustments are made to deal with the drag on the dead side?

I pretty much is, but the pilots use the rudders to counter the torque and bring it under control. At least that is how I understand it.

I imagine its like a low tire. You just turn the wheel a little more to the other side.
You are welcome

I haven't watched the new Sully Sullenberger movie. That's pilot speak for what?

Certainly they are trained to do this, but peripheral damage of this nature could have been catastrophic.
